Using resin-category beehive material, one can combat baldness and make sure that hair growth is significantly promoted on their scalp. Hair loss can turn into a rather traumatic event in the lives of men. It leads to decreased sexual as well as social confidence. Not everybody can be Vin Diesel or Jason Statham; hence, hair loss can be rather unappealing in most men. However, Fox News reports that a new remedy for hair loss designed from beehive material could lead to men searching for their local beekeepers.
Experiments conducted by scientists in Hokkaido, Japan have led to a revolutionary discovery. According to them, Propolis, which is a resin-like substance found in beehives, has encouraged hair growth in shaved mice. What is it that led to scientists conducting an experiment like this? Since a long time, Propolis has been used for a variety of natural remedies including wound healing and acne treatment due to its awesome anti-inflammatory properties.
However, till now it has been never been tested on hair loss. There are certain kinds of hair loss disorders like that of alopecia areata, which is directly linked to inflammation. Hence, scientists found it prudent to make use of Propolis. The keratinocyte-proliferative effect present in Propolis induces anti-inflammatory properties that can be used to successfully combat hair loss. Ken Kobayashi, who led the study, declared it recently.
The epidermis consists of a rather predominant cell type known as Keratinocytes located on the outermost layer of the skin. They play a principal role in follicle-protection and hair shaft management. Inflammation can lead to the shutting down of these functions that could be counter-reacted through the anti-inflammatory properties of Propolis.
The point to be noted is that the mice used in the experiment were shaved; they had no signs of baldness or hair loss disorders. Even then, Kobayashi and his team discovered that Propolis stimulated the proliferation of keratinocytes and precise migration into the hair shaft. The mice that received this treatment showed accelerated hair growth compared to the ones that didn’t.
However, keep in mind that this is not a cue for bald men everywhere to start rubbing their heads in beehives yet! It has not yet been established that Propolis can radically reverse the hair loss issues and male-pattern baldness. Kobayashi and his teammates are indicating that the next phase of their research will lead to a Propolis test in conjunction with other treatments for baldness.
A combination with minoxidil (the primary constituent in Rogaine) could be tested soon. According to Kobayashi, Propolis is a completely natural ingredient and does not have any side effects; hence, a combination of Propolis with minoxidil could lead to amazing results.
