‘Orange is the New Black’ Season 5 Cancellation Rumors Downright Ridiculous as the TV Series Has Been Renewed Already for Three Seasons

There have been absurd rumors going around of late saying that Season 5 of the American comedy-drama TV series “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix is on the brink of cancellation, which many in the know find ridiculous.

There are two major reasons why the rumors are absolutely wrong and downright absurd.

First is the fact that immediately after airing its Season 4 in June of this year on the streaming channel, Netflix renewed the TV series for three more seasons which means that “Orange is the New Black” could go up to Season 7 at the very least.

Secondly, the TV series is doing very well in the ratings game and enjoys excellent viewership which means that it would be ironic if not wrong for Netflix to suddenly pull the plug on its airing.

In fact, reports about the possible plotlines of Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black” have been aplenty on the internet which really makes the cancellation rumors as misdirect.

A highly-anticipated episode

Incidentally, fans are also anticipating the episode of “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 which shall be directed by Laura Prepon, notes News Everyday.

The actress plays the role of Alex Vause in the TV series and fans are already excited about how well she does working from behind the camera.

Laura Prepon had the starring role in the psychological movie thriller “The Girl on the Rain.” She was also part of the sitcom “That 70s Show” where the love between Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis first bloomed.

Reports have it that Prepon is also very excited to direct an episode of “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 although the producers have yet to specify which episode would it be.

Another oblique rumor

Another rather oblique rumor going around about “Orange is the New Black” is that the upcoming fifth season could be the last for Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling.

The speculations actually began from a recent interview with the actress herself where she was quoted as saying that Piper is becoming less and less important in Litchfield Penitentiary.

Schilling said that Piper is kind of moving further and further away from the idea of what she thought she was and she is also becoming more practical.

The actress added that Piper has become a creature of the prison, and there’s no space for excess. She explained that the inmate’s only need is for survival, and brushing her hair doesn’t really factor into the equation anymore, notes Mobile & Apps.

Critics find these Piper death rumors as absurd and downright inaccurate because “Orange is the New Black” is actually based on the memoirs of Piper Kerman, where the TV series is based.

Piper Kerman is being personified in the TV series by Piper Chapman, so she obviously managed to stay alive in prison until she was paroled before writing the memoir. So it is simply absurd to see Piper Chapman dying in the show.

Incidentally, the upcoming fifth season of “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix shall pick up on the fallout after the death of inmate Poussey, played by Samira Wiley during a prison riot in the Season 4 finale.

Taystee, played by Danielle Brooks, was the first person to know that CO Baxter Bay, played by Alan Aisenberg, was the one who killed Poussey and he was not charged at all with the death of her best friend.

Other inmates were also frustrated that Bay got off the hook for the death of Poussey and Taystee shall reportedly take matters into her own hands to avenge the death of her best friend.

Orange is the New Black

But the spoiler did not say if Taystee would also kill CO Baxter Bay in the upcoming fifth season of “Orange is the New Black.”

Danielle Brooks, in a recent interview, said that viewers would see in Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black” a very different Taystee and the character would be way different from the same one that they saw during the show’s very first episode.
