When a TV series has become so successful, producers will always try to find a way to bring it back through a possible a spin-off series which could either be a sequel or a prequel.
Apparently, “Game of Thrones” is one of those so when it was confirmed a few months ago that the HBO hit series would end after its Season 8 in 2018, fans were dismayed to learn that their favorite TV series will just end after only 13 more episodes which would be spread in two years.
But the producers of the TV series, including HBO, wanted to sustain the commercial success of the show that reports now have it that a prequel series for “Game of Thrones” would likely come out after the eighth and final season of arguably the most popular TV series on the small screen all over the world today.
This means that the prequel series to “Game of Thrones” could start in 2019. However, this is still speculation at this point in time so it should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
Source material for prequel series now ready
Interestingly, the prequel series shall have for its basis the novel series of critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin which the American writer released a few months ago.
While Martin may have already started working on the prequel novels to “A Song of Ice and Fire,” most of his fans are still waiting for him to finish the two remaining books of the original fantasy novel series – “The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring.”
There are reports saying that “The Winds of Winter” may come out before Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” airs on HBO in the summer of next year, reports Mobile & Apps.
But critics already doubt that since having the book around would either provide plenty of spoilers for the last two seasons of the TV series or it would just add to the confusion since the TV series has reportedly deviated from the fantasy novel series.
They believe that it is possible that “The Winds of Winter” would hit the book shelves after the Season 8 of “Game of Thrones” but definitely before the prequel series kicks off on HBO sometime in 2019.
Thus, it is possible that “The Winds of Winter” could come out in 2018 or sometime in early 2019. A 2017 release date appears to be very remote at this point even if George R.R. Martin has already completed writing the book.
Stressed over Trump’s victory
There are reports of late saying that George Martin has lost the enthusiasm to continue writing “The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring” in light of the recent victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential elections on November 8.
Apparently, Martin strongly supported Hillary Clinton so when the former US Secretary of State lost to Trump, the author may have felt stressed and no longer interested in completing his novels, or so the rumors say, notes Australia Network News.
Many critics consider it as baseless, absurd, and ridiculous rumors that somehow cast negative aspersions on the kind of person that George Martin is. They believe that it is an acute way of promoting the book by capitalizing on the recent political exercise in the US.
They also think that Martin is not too hollow as far as his political views or opinions are concerned and it surely has nothing to do with his writing of “The Winds of Winter” as well as the seventh and final book of the series entitled “A Dream of Spring.”
Weeks before the US elections, Martin was seen with Clinton in New Mexico during her campaign. He was also quoted as saying then that Trump’s ads against Clinton were made of assertion, innuendo, and name-calling but there is no substance to them. He added that the ads of the Donald only showed that Trump is just being himself.
