‘Man of Steel 2’ Back on Warner Bros Agenda as Script is Now Under Development, Confirms Amy Adams

“Man of Steel” first came out in theaters in 2013 and there have been reports one year later that it will have a sequel.

However, instead of “Man of Steel 2,” what came out was the second official foray of Warner Bros on the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) when it released “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in March this year.

It also did not help the cause of the sequel when original director of choice George Miller backed out to direct “Man of Steel 2.”

As Warner Bros has tapped Zack Snyder to direct “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and also the upcoming “Justice League” movie, it is almost expected that he would also be helming “Man of Steel 2” once production gets underway.

Unless Warner Bros decide to replace Snyder with a new director for “Man of Steel 2,” it is for him to lose the project and no one else.

In a recent interview while promoting her movie “Arrival,” actress Amy Adams, who portrays Lois Lane in the DCEU, confirmed that there is going to be a “Man of Steel 2.”

She said that the film is now back on the Warner Bros agenda and disclosed that the script for the film is now under development, reports the Digital Spy.

A big-budget blockbuster

Reports also have it that Warner Bros took too long to decide for “Man of Steel 2” because the first movie was completed with a huge budget of $225 million.

It went on to generate a respectable $668 million showing in the global box-office, which netted for Warner Bros a profit of $443 million, certainly big money in any language.

Given that the DCEU has already begun after “Man of Steel,” it is likely that Warner Bros will spend more than $225 million in producing the sequel which was the main reason why there was a sort of hold-up in the decision of the production company to greenlight the project.

Critics are saying, however, that today’s blockbusters happen to spend a lot of money or investment in production and if Warner Bros is serious about wanting to see “Man of Steel 2” earn money at the box-office, it has to be willing to spend for the investment, no matter how costly it may be.

The bottom line is also in math. So if a big-budgeted movie becomes a blockbuster and earns a handsome profit, there should be no reason to doubt that the sequel will do the same, if not fare better.

Busy with other DCEU films

While Warner Bros has not officially said anything about the release date for “Man of Steel 2,” the consensus of the speculations is that it could come out sometime in 2019.

At the moment, Warner Bros is busy working on the production of “Wonder Woman” which is slated to hit theaters on June 2, 2017. Subsequently, the three DCEU movies will follow including “Justice League” on November 17, 2017, “The Flash” on March 16, 2018, and “Aquaman” on July 27, 2018.

Although, plot details have not been shared as yet for “Man of Steel 2,” it is quite possible that a resurrected Superman will fight against evil in the second installment, details the International Business Times of UK.

The second and third movies of the DCEU was shown in theaters this year with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in March and “Suicide Squad” in August.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” earned $873 million at the box office while “Suicide Squad” posted results of $720 million. While both movies made a respectable, even huge to some producers, it should be noted that Warner Bros actually spent in the north of $250 million to produce both films.
