Fragmentation is one of the biggest problems faced by Android as a result of which many devices suffer a major delay in receiving the latest version of Android OS. Samsung wants to end that by launching the Android 7.0 Nougat Galaxy Beta Program for its two flagship devices: Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
Before the Pixel and Pixel, XL smartphones were unveiled by Google; users flocked to the company’s Nexus handsets since they came with the guarantee of receiving all the latest updates directly from Google and that too fast. Now, the Pixel and Pixel XL will continue Google’s tradition of receiving fast Android updates.
Right now, the biggest smartphone maker for Android is addressing the fragmentation issues faced by this operating system. Users from US, UK, and South Korea are allowed to sign up for this program.
According to the company, users in China will soon gain access to this program. Samsung further noted that users who apply for the program would be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Equipped with Samsung’s latest OS, users can get a feel of the new Beta program. It will provide feedback on performance, usability, and reliability.
The responses from users will help Samsung develop high-performing, reliable software and also provide optimized and improved experience to all Galaxy users.
According to Samsung, users who possess an active Samsung account and meet all the program requirements needs to apply for the program by downloading the Galaxy Beta Program app through Samsung Members App or the Galaxy App.
They are available through Google Play Store or Google Apps, depending on the country. Keep in mind that this program is only available to users of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
The users of Galaxy S7 edge Injustice Edition and Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition will not get access to this program. To take part in the program, users also need to have a non-operator locked device.
There are many awesome new features in Android Nougat 7.0. These include new power saving enhancements which will bring out more battery life out of your smartphone.
It will build up on Google’s Doze feature which started with Android 6.0 Marshmallow; Nougat’s Doze on the Go will kick in whenever the display is off, and even if the phone is in motion, it will save battery life.
Meanwhile, multi-window app support is a feature Samsung already offered on its Note series of phablets, but with Android Nougat 7.0, the feature has been introduced in all smartphones.
Users can open two apps and display both these apps on the screen, side by side. For example, while messaging, you can surf the web, or while watching a YouTube video, you can write a mail simultaneously. The feature brings enhanced multitasking to Android Nougat 7.0 devices.
Multi-window can be used with both portrait and landscape modes. In case you are using your device in landscape, the screen will divide evenly between two opened applications. However, in portrait, one app window will occupy two-thirds of the display while the other takes the remaining one-third.
In other news, OnePlus declared that it is working on releasing newer updates on some of its older devices and the company recently declared that it is working on releasing Android Nougat 7.0 by the end of 2016.
