Unlike the Marvel Studios movies based on Marvel Comics where there is always a breath of humor to them even though the overall tones are serious, Warner Bros films based on DC Comics appear to be made too serious, with hardly a room for light and funny moments.
Those appeared to be the cases with “Man of Steel” when it was shown in 2013 and then again in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” when it hit theaters in March this year.
It seems that Warner Bros films were all grim and gritty and extremely serious that are so unlike the humor of Tony Stark / Iron Man, or the antics of Ant-Man, or the naiveness of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It looks like it will continue when “Wonder Woman” stand-alone film hits theaters on June 2, 2017. However, reports now have it that things will start changing for the DC Extended Universe when “Justice League” is shown on November 17, 2017.
Loosening up a bit
Apparently, the movie will seek to change the grim and gritty, extremely serious overtones of Warner Bros films based on DC Comics.
In a recent interview, Ben Affleck confirmed that his Batman in “Justice League” will reveal that he does have a sense of humor during the movie, reports the Digital Spy.
The first trailer of “Justice League” shown in July during the San Diego ComicCon seems to confirm that, with the mildly funny quote “I hear you can talk to fish” line which he says to Aquaman plus a bit of bantz with Wonder Woman.
It is still not in the caliber of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Iron Man humor but it’s certainly a lot better than the already poker-faced and very straight Batman or the seemingly depressed portrayal of Henry Cavill as Superman in “Man of Steel.”
Even Superman during the time of the late Christopher Reeves had a sense of humor and it is just unfortunate that Director Zack Snyder has made things very serious with the films based on DC Comics.
There are reports going around saying that “Justice League” will be less Snyder-y which is as good as saying that there will be less rage on the upcoming DC film.
DC Comics writer Geoff Johns has recently stated that the film will feature fewer of the controversial flourishes that dogged “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Johns said that DC films are mistakenly being regarded as gritty and dark which makes the different. He said that it could not be more wrong because it is a hopeful and optimistic view of life. He added that even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he would make tomorrow better, he would stop.
Getting a boost from the animated series
“Justice League” will certainly get a big boost with the premiere of another Justice League cartoon coming to Cartoon Network entitled “Justice League Action” following the footsteps of “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited” animated series.
The new cartoon series will debut on Cartoon Network on November 27, 2016.
Critics, however, are saying that the upcoming cartoon is more of “Teen Titans Go!” rather than the highly-acclaimed “Justice League Unlimited” base on the humor, the animation, and the fact that Khary Payton reprises his voice role of Cyborg from “Teen Titans Go!,” reports Collider.
Khary Payton, as TV fans know now, is the actor who portrays King Ezekiel of The Kingdom in the ongoing Season 7 of “The Walking Dead.”
Based on the trailer of “Justice League Action” shown during the latest ComicCon, there will be tons of actions from the superheroes.
The clips also showcased a number of characters, including Batman, Superman, The Flash, Joker, Mongul, Toyman, Blue Beetle, and Chronos.
