The sophomore season of “American Crime Story” will be dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, based on Douglas Brinkley’s book ‘The Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast’ as the primary source.
Series creator Ryan Murphy earlier confirmed that Sarah Paulson, who played Marcia Clark in the first season that dramatized OJ Simpson’s murder case on her ex-wife Nicole, will return in the upcoming second season.
Now, reports are suggesting that Sterling K. Brown, who played Chris Darden in the true crime anthology’s first season, might also star in the second season.
Murphy said that he talked to both actors and Sarah and Sterling have both expressed their interests to return and play new characters in “American Crime Story.” He adds that he wants to see them both together on the small screen again because they have great chemistry and work well together.
The showrunner says that they are still finalizing the casting process for the new season and haven’t really told the actors who will play what part, but they already have the story laid out.
Hurricane Katrina is known as one of the deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States, killing over 1,245 people during the hurricane and subsequent flood in August 2005.
Areas most affected included the Bahamas, South Florida, Mississippi, Greater New Orleans, Alabama, Florida, and most of North America.
However, fans speculate that dual casting might be a problem for Sterling as the actor has been cast on NBC’s “This Is Us.” Murphy dismisses these issues stating that all is cool between all parties and he’s happy that Sterling is getting all the recognition he deserves.
Production for the second season of the FX hit series will begin early next year, but the network has yet to announce a premiere date.
Some reports suggest that the latest installment will premiere sometime in June, compared to the first season that premiered in February.
Just like the first season, the upcoming season will have 10 episodes. The season has been given the title ‘The Great Deluge,’ in reference to the book where it is based on.
The pilot season of the “American Crime Story” bagged many awards, recognitions, and nominations including nine Emmys.
Brown received the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, while Paulson took home the Outstanding Actress for the same category during the Emmy Awards this year.
Courtney B. Vance also won as the Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, and the show was recognized as Outstanding Limited Series. Most of the cast and crew have been nominated for their work on the show.
Paulson and Murphy have worked together multiple times. The 41-year-old actress has appeared in another Murphy series “American Horror Story” for a number of seasons and is on board for another FX series under the “Glee” creator titled “Feud.”
The upcoming series will be about the legendary rift between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. The ’12 Years A Slave’ star will portray Oscar winner Geraldine Page. Not much details have been disclosed about “Feud,” but it is already in the stage of development.
Murphy is currently working on two seasons of “American Crime Story” as the network decided to renew it for the third season as well.
Season 3 casting underway
Meanwhile, the show’s third season has been confirmed to be already in the works. The new season will be about the murder of famous fashion designer Gianni Versace.
Us Weekly reports that Lady Gaga has been confirmed to play Donatella Versace, Gianni’s sister. The season will be based on Maureen Orth’s book titled “Vulgar Favors.”
