Is it possible that Apple is on the verge of an innovation crisis? According to 9to5 Mac, Apple reported an immense growth in profit share during the third quarter.
There was a similar batch of reports from a research note taken from BMO Capital Markets, suggesting that 103.6% of the total smartphone industry was captured by Apple and Samsung ranked a distant second.
While looking at the fourth quarter, Morgan Stanley is quite hopeful about the demand for iPhone 7 during a 2nd November research note. Apple came towards iPhone 7 forecasts with some conservation, but considering the better than anticipated initial demand, the company will be increasing their orders to suppliers. Morgan Stanley cited expenses that are supposed to ramp extra production lines.
Meanwhile, Sharp President Tai Jeng-wu talked about the recent innovation problems being faced by Apple. At Foxconn Technology Group, Sharp’s parent company, he is also an executive.
According to him, they don’t know if Apple’s OLED phones will be a success, but if Apple decides to stop walking down the path, attempting to transform them, there will be a serious lack of innovation.
While it’s a crisis, it presents an opportunity as well. That is what Tai said a week ago to Nikkei, a Japan business daily. His parent company is a contract manufacturer of Apple’s phones. On top of that, Sharp is also the supplier of displays used in Apple devices.
The president of Sharp was referring the use of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) displays in the upcoming iPhone 8. With the use of OLEDs, Apple will be able to make curved or foldable displays for the upcoming iPhones, besides incorporating other things.
Till now, Apple has been using a lot more conventional LCD displays on the iPhones. Compared to that, Samsung started using AMOLED displays for its Galaxy flagship devices.
Apple faced a lot of criticism over the fact that the Apple iPhone 7 looked exactly like the iPhone 6, which was launched years ago. It will not be clear if Apple is facing a crisis until we look at iPhone sales figures over a 12-month period and figure out if the iPhone 8 will be truly innovative or a simple departure from the already seen iPhone 6/6S/7.
In other news, the iPhone 7 was recently announced, but we are already getting rumors and speculations about the upcoming iPhone 8. From the looks of it, Apple is holding back major improvements and upgrades for the device, and it will be launched on the 10th anniversary of iPhones. Technically, the next iPhone is supposed to be the iPhone 7S.
However, since the next upgrade is a major one, Apple is planning to give it a new number. It is said that the next iPhone could be called The iPhone or iPhone Pro, but for now, we’ll stick to calling it iPhone 8.
A lot of people are asking about the iPhone 8 release date. It is a bit too early to be talking about launch dates and it won’t probably even be called that. If Apple sticks to tradition, the next iPhone should be launched in September 2017.
However, since 2017 is the anniversary of the Apple iPhone, don’t be surprised if Apple decides to mix things up a bit. It’s not quite so easy to figure out the release date.
Meanwhile, it seems like an Apple employee gave up the name of the new iPhone while talking to Business Insider. As already mentioned, the iPhone for 2017 is somewhat unpredictable since it will mark a big moment for the iPhone.
