EA have been hard at work on a sequel to “Star Wars Battlefront”, and it looks like they are going to keep pushing that brand name as much as they can. Many fans of the original games were skeptical about the release of the last “Battlefront”, but the game turned out to be a pleasant surprise for those who wanted some exciting space action, and was actually well designed and polished.
Now, the sequel is coming up next year, and even though we don’t know the exact release date yet, many fans are apparently already gearing up to get their hands on it. The developers have been keeping everyone excited as well, with various insights into the game’s development that reveal a slightly new design direction.
It looks like the new “Battlefront” is going to be aiming for a bigger, more expansive experience, and those who enjoyed exploring the large open areas of the last game will feel right at home in the sequel. We’ve seen some talks about significantly larger worlds being designed for the new game, and it might get expanded in other directions as well.
For example, it’s possible that “Star Wars Battlefront 2” is going to have a stronger focus on vehicle combat, and that’s pretty much going to be necessary if the game really is getting such an increase in its world size.
Hopefully this won’t take away from the classic infantry combat, but there are various things that can be done to make that experience match the larger scale of the overall game too. For example, the developers could use a movement system similar to that found in “Titanfall”, with ground units having the ability to freely run on walls and otherwise scale the levels at a rapid pace.
The latest release in the “Titanfall” series actually expanded on that gameplay element significantly, and many players praised the game for its fluid movement system. It’s still an EA studio too, so the company could easily copy some of their ideas from one game to another if they fit well.
Of course, “Star Wars” has an established setting and lore, and it might feel a little out of place if the next game featured jetpacks and similar gameplay elements, but who knows what we’re going to see on the film side of things until then anyway.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is coming out soon, and it’s said to expand the lore of the franchise in a pretty major way, so we might see some new ideas for the developers of “Star Wars Battlefront 2” as well. That’s actually a huge opportunity that EA should try to seize, as it could boost the popularity of their own game significantly if they pulled it off right.
If the game features new elements that were freshly introduced in the last film, this would draw many fans to it and would work out great for its marketing. Of course, the developers would need some time to properly implement something like that, so they might need to coordinate with the producers of the film behind the scenes.
EA seem to have some serious plans for the future of the franchise, and they aren’t going to loosen their grip on it anytime soon. The company is apparently aiming to release at least one new “Star Wars” game per year for several years from now, something which many gamers definitely wouldn’t mind.
