‘Scandal’ Season 6 to Highlight the Results of the US Presidential Elections, in the TV Series, That Is

Season 6 of the American political drama TV series “Scandal” is set to premiere on ABC on January 19 and based on its latest trailer, it shall focus on the results of the US presidential elections, in the show that is.

It is a case of art imitating life as the US presidential elections is also ongoing at this time but the next real-life American President would already be known months before the Season 6 of “Scandal” premieres on ABC.

The trailer for “Scandal” Season 6 actually drops viewers back into the narrative on Election Day as both sides wrap up their chaotic campaigns, with all the elements thrown into the mix that only showrunner Shonda Rhimes can think of, notes Vulture.

Fans are actually hoping that if Mellie Grant, played by Bellamy Young, does not win, Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, should personally take over the role of the US president because nobody in “Scandal” can do it better than her.

She can have her First Gentleman or First Lady for all the people care but they prefer that she takes the rein of the White House and put some measure of order and stability on it.

Of course, it is not what Rhimes has in mind for the upcoming sixth season of “Scandal” as such are merely fan wishful thinking.

A slightly less over-the-top election

Whether Americans would agree to it or not, “Scandal” actually has a slightly less over-the-top and theatrical presidential election than the real-life battle between Democrats bet Hillary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald J. Trump, notes A.V. Club.

In the TV series, Mellie Grant and her vice presidential candidate Jake Ballard, played by Scott Foley, go head-to-head with Democratic nominee Francisco ‘Frank’ Vargas, played by Ricardo Chavira, and his scheming veepee Cyrus Beene, played by Jeff Perry.

The narrative of the trailer of “Scandal” Season 6 is also saying that the election results are in and that there would be a huge twist right in the first 10 minutes of the premiere episode.

It was punctuated by a literal explosion that looks more like it only affected Quinn and Huck.

The video teaser also showed some fiery scenes between Mellie and Olivia as well as steamy moments between Olivia and Fitz, played by Tony Goldwyn, which assures fans that “Scandal” is really back with a vengeance.

Not leaving the show for sure

Kerry Washington just gave birth recently to a healthy baby boy, which she and husband Nnamdi Asomugha named as Caleb Kelechi.

Her pregnancy and subsequent baby delivery were the primary reason why Season 6 of “Scandal” intentionally missed its regular fall premiere. The TV series is slated to premiere on ABC in January next year, six episodes less than its normal 22-episode order.

The push-back in its release date and the reduction in the number of episodes have spawned speculations that the show is already on the chopping board, despite its superb ratings.

Subsequently, there have been rumors that went around saying that Kerry Washington might be leaving the show after Season 6 to be able to spend more time with her two children, Isabelle Amarachi, and newly-born Caleb Kelechi.

However, it would not take a genius to deduce that the very reason why the release date of “Scandal” Season 6 was delayed intentionally is because showrunner Shonda Rhimes and the writers want to make sure that Kerry Washington will already be back by the time that it airs on ABC.
