Can The Ant-Man Movie Become A Successful Stand-Alone Marvel Franchise? Let’s See

There are many who wish to know about Marvel cinematic Universe’s releases in the future. As a result, the Phase 3 announcement by Marvel has been hugely exciting for all of these people worldwide. While the things that got announced were quite thrilling, people were also interested about movies that went unannounced. Noticeably, nothing was mentioned regarding a Black Widow film or a Hulk Movie and most shockingly, no planned sequel for the Ant-Man movie.

Reportedly, a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy will drop in 2017 but presently Ant-Man is the only movie franchise without a guaranteed reappearance. The character might turn up in any future Marvel movies or follow-up could be released in 2019 or beyond. He seems to be the only character that future in the Marvel cinematic universe seems rather uncertain.

While we will witness a sequel to Guardians of The Galaxy, it seems there is no room for an Ant-Man follow-up on the Marvel slate. The lack of any announcement for an Ant-Man sequel brings to mind its recent problems with production. British Cinematic darlings Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish comprised the high-profile writing phase for this movie. However, weeks before the production was slated to begin, Wright walked away from the project due to some creative differences.

However, a rocky start like this does not necessarily mean that the movie will end up being worthless. Instead, the film could end up being a complete Guardians-style hit. We haven’t seen the footage yet, so it’s not possible to write it off. This is what makes the lack of a sequel rather intriguing. It almost looks like Marvel has already discarded the project before the audiences see any frame of it.

It could also be possible that Marvel wants it to be this way. It could be an experimental project where Marvel wishes to see how Ant-Man pays off as a standalone film, without a connection to any other films in the Marvel cinematic Universe. This could be a successful experiment because Ant-Man is quite famous without being too famous to fail.

Ant-Man movie

Henry-Pym Ant-Man is a member of the original Avengers line-up. Even so, he along with love interest, The Wasp was omitted from the Avengers line-up in the Marvel cinematic Universe. Neither of these characters has ever reached the height of other Marvel characters like The Hulk, Captain America and Iron Man.

Marvel could be trying to make a superhero movie without the various cameos, fan-service and not-so-subtle references to other Marvel superhero movies. If this is the situation, Ant-Man is exactly the kind of low-risk character to try this strategy with. There could also be other alternate plans for the character.
