The eighth and final season of “The Vampire Diaries” is currently airing and fans are waiting how the series will end. Executive producer Julie Plec has promised fans that the ending will be satisfying for everyone.
Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, who plays the Salvatore brothers Damon and Stefan, respectively, had some interesting ideas for how they wanted “The Vampire Diaries” to end.
Speaking to Game & Guide, Wesley said that that he preferred for both the Salvatore brothers to take off their daylight rings and die in the series finale.
He adds that the Salvatore brothers have already lived a long time and the duo drifting away in the world seems like a somber, yet perfect way to go.
Somerhalder seemed to support Wesley’s suggestion saying that the core of the show is the relationship between Stefan and Damon. Throughout the past seven seasons, the show has been about Stefan saving Damon or the other way around.
Somerhalder adds that Elena and Katherine do not deserve any of the Salvatore brothers as they only brought her pain. The 37-year-old actor adds that the brothers perishing will be a perfect way to end the show.
Rumors are rife that Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena and her doppelganger Katherine will be back this season. Since the show has been announced to be ending after Season 8, Dobrev’s return has been one of the mysteries surrounding the final season.
Plec has earlier stated that she and Nina have talked about her return and judging by her statement, it seems to be heading on a positive note despite the absence of an official confirmation.
Fans are also clamoring for the return of another fan-favorite character Jeremy Gilbert, played by Steven McQueen.
McQueen left the show after Season 5 with Jeremy going to art school away from Mystic Falls and having a normal life.
However, there are reports saying that Dobrev will not return as Elena nor any of her doppelgangers, but as this season’s main villain.
Fans will remember that last season, Damon and Enzo were lured into the vault by the siren and now they have become rippers under her spell and are killing people to feed her.
While many people believe that Sybil is the siren, rumors suggest that the real villain will be played by Dobrev. It is not yet clear if her character will be returning as a doppelganger or a new one not related to the Petrova line.
The second episode of Season 8 saw the Mystic Falls gang getting hold of Damon and Enzo, but realize they are far deep under the control of the siren.
Sybil got into Damon’s mind and replaced his memory of meeting Elena by introducing herself instead. As for Enzo, he tried extremely hard not to think about Bonnie too much, but after their reunion, Sybil was able to get into Enzo’s head and see how much Bonnie means to him.
Elsewhere, Caroline and Stefan get engaged and plan a June wedding, while Bonnie becomes emotional because she’s slowly losing hope in saving Enzo and Damon.
The upcoming third episode teases how Damon will find out about his brother’s engagement and how he will ruin the good news.
As viewers have noticed, Enzo has the mind control more handled than Damon, with Enzo leaving clues for Bonnie to find them behind Sybil’s knowledge.
A clip for the upcoming episode shows Bonnie and Caroline talking about Damon being Caroline’s future brother-in-law. Caroline apparently does not want to invite Damon to the wedding but does not know how Stefan will take it.
The next few scenes show Caroline and Damon getting off on each other’s wrong foot. It’s very clear that Damon has every intention of ruining his brother and Caroline’s happiness.
