The fans of the first-person shooter puzzle video game series “Portal” have spoken and they want to see the third installment of the franchise come out on the current generation gaming consoles soon.
Reports are rife that fans of the game are quite confident that game developer Valve Corporation would release “Portal 3” by the end of 2016, reports the Christian Today.
However, Valve has yet to make an official statement regarding the next installment to its popular FPS puzzle game series.
“Portal” is a video puzzle game from Valve that involves solving passageways to enter and exit portals to advance the player’s character in the game.
While the game may sound easy, there’s also an antagonist that hinders the character from advancing by locking the player’s character inside a portal with no escape.
At the end of “Portal 2”, the game’s main protagonist, Chell, was placed in a field with a companion cube. This mysterious end to the game left players with so many questions, and fans have been waiting for five years for answers which could very well be solved with the release of “Portal 3.”
Working on the development of the game
The rumors about the impending release of “Portal 3” stemmed from recent reports that Valve Corporation is now busy working on the development of the game, notes the Christian Times.
Apparently, an artist who goes by the name of Tristan Reidford, is said to have posted a screenshot of two highly anticipated games, “Left 4 Dead 3” and the “Portal 3.”
The screenshot allegedly came from a Destinations Workshop tutorial where Redford seems to be working on. After the leak information spread all over the Internet, it was immediately taken down by Valve.
If the rumors were indeed on target, then “Left 4 Dead” and “Portal” will be the first two video game series from Valve to release third installments. The company has been known to develop two-part games such as “Team Fortress,” “Half-Life,” and the two rumored games that are rumored to come out this year.
Valve has yet to confirm these reports, though. But many fans believe that it is only a matter of time before the company decides to make an official announcement.
The least of the expectations
The American game developer has been pretty mum about the third installments of its popular video games including “Left 4 Dead 3,” “Half-Life 3,” and “Portal 3.”
Of the three highly anticipated video games from its end, the least of the expectations are on the first-person shooter puzzle video game “Portal 3.” Obviously, while the “Portal” video game franchise has a tremendous amount of following, it’s not as huge as those of “Left 4 Dead” and “Half-Life.”
Although Valve Corporation has not been making any official pronouncement or statement with regards to the three franchises, all of the upcoming third installments of the video game series are getting good press online either through supposed leaks, rumors, or just plain hoaxes.
While “Left 4 Dead 3” and “Half-Life 3” may be getting the attention of anticipating video gamers online, the prospect of having a “Portal 3” seems high because of the fact that the predecessor game, “Portal 2,” left a huge cliffhanger towards the end.
It could be recalled that Chell, the silent portal gun-wielding protagonist of “Portal,” was released from the Aperture facility and dumped into an empty field by the AI, GlaDOS.
The last scene in “Portal 2” in the end credits showed the smooth-talking British robot antagonist Wheatly hurtling through space. The robot was also quoted as saying that if ever he sees Chell again, he would say he is sincerely sorry because he was bossy and monstrous.
Gamers are sincerely pushing for “Portal 3” since they really wanted to know what happened after “Portal 2.”
In April this year, gamers marked the fifth anniversary since “Portal 2” was released on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Most of them are saying that it is high time for Valve to consider releasing “Portal 3” very soon on the current generation gaming consoles.
Since “Portal 2” ended in a massive cliffhanger, gamers wanted to know what happened to Chell out in that field or whether she managed to hold on to her gun or not.
