Disney Pictures has already confirmed that there will be a fourth installment to its very successful “High School Musical” romantic comedy film franchise but it is not clear when it is going to be released to theaters.
The latest listing of Disney movies coming out in 2017 tentatively includes “High School Musical 4” but based on most reports, the film is expected to hit cinemas in 2018.
There are also new rumors suggesting that the upcoming franchise will have a working title of “The Wedding” so it has led to speculations saying that it is possible that “High School Musical 4” could actually feature the happy ending of Troy Bolton, played by Zac Efron, and Gabriella Montez, played by Vanessa Hudgens, reports the Christian Today.
The new speculations started heating up when reports began popping out saying that Vanessa Hudgens has just broken up with boyfriend Austin Butler. There were even subsequent rumors saying that Zac Efron is now back in the life of the young actress.
The former couple has been together since they started filming for “High School Musical” and were together until shortly after the third film was released in 2008.
Fortunately, there hasn’t been any bad blood between the two, and it was considered as not a horrible break-up. The couple merely grew apart from each other which led to the split.
Now that they are allegedly going to reunite in the upcoming “High School Musical 4,” there are reports saying that it is possible that the two could rekindle the romance they left off years ago, details the iTech Post.
A pop superstar in the film?
There are also rumors stating that Zac Efron may return as Troy Bolton in “High School Musical 4” but Vanessa Hudgens many no longer reprise her Gabriella Montez role.
According to the same speculation, Troy’s love interest in the next installment of the franchise shall be played by pop superstar Taylor Swift.
The name of the “Shake It Off” singer started coming out because there are claims that it would be difficult to convince former real-life couple Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens in the same project.
It is apparently the reason why the original lead characters of Disney’s “High School Musical” franchise will no longer appear in the new film.
Zac Efron is reportedly dating Taylor Swift after the singer’s break-up with Tom Hiddleston recently so some are saying that the Grammy Award-winning singer will be considered to portray the role of Troy’s new girlfriend in “High School Musical 4.”
But since Disney Pictures and either of the actor or the singer has made the confirmation about those rumors, it is best to take all information with a fine grain of salt.
An entirely new casting?
There is also another set of rumors regarding “High School Musical 4” and this time, the film shall no longer be featuring the original cast members known as the East High Wildcats.
Reports have it that the cast members will now be known as the West High Knights. But Disney has yet to confirm the speculations but it is nonetheless highly possible.
It has been a long time since the last “High School Musical” movie was aired so the cast and the characters have now grown up and matured already. The upcoming movie franchise will allegedly feature an entirely new cast and a new love story to unfold.
More than 10 years after the first movie of the “High School Musical” film series was released in theaters, Disney Channel has greenlit the production of the fourth movie, tentatively titled “High School Musical 4.”
The first movie of the “High School Musical” franchise became the most successful film that Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) ever produced and released in January 2006.
One year later, it produced a TV sequel entitled “High School Musical 2.” The following year, the second sequel, “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” was released to theaters.
