From a June 15, 2018 release date to global theaters, “Toy Story 4” will now be hitting cinemas on June 21, 2019 after Pixar Animation Studios announced on October 26 that it has pulled a switcheroo between the fourth installment of the toy movie franchise and “The Incredibles 2.”
“The Incredibles 2” release date has been pushed up by a year and will be taking over the previous release date of “Toy Story 4” on June 15, 2018.
Interestingly, both animated movies have their release dates entirely to themselves. With the new schedules, “The Incredibles 2” will premiere between the releases of “Transformers 6” and the sequel to “Jurassic World.” “Toy Story 4,” on the other hand, will be hitting theaters between an untitled DC Comics movie and “Transformers 7,” details Variety.
“Toy Story 4” will bring back original stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to lend their voices to Woody and Buzz, respectively. “Toy Story 3” remains Pixar’s highest-grossing film, having made $1.1 billion globally and it would be interesting to find out if “Toy Story 4” could match it, if not surpassed the box-office success of its predecessor film.
Bound to surpass its predecessors
John Lasseter, the director of the original “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2” will be directing the fourth iteration of the very successful toy movie franchise.
In a recent interview, Lasseter said that he and the production team love the “Toy Story” characters so much that they consider them as family. He explained that they don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what has been done before, notes Oh My Disney.
In effect, Lasseter is saying that “Toy Story 4” is bound to surpass “Toy Story 3” and the two previous predecessor films in terms of storylines but it remains to be seen if it does better at the box office than all of the three previous movies.
“Toy Story 4” will open a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the “Toy Story” gang. The story was dreamt up by Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich, the storytellers who have been the driving force behind all three “Toy Story” films. The film is written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.
It can be recalled that “Toy Story 3” ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, Lasseter and his team never even talked about doing another “Toy Story” movie.
But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and John came up with a new idea, they just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting for John that he knew they had to make the movie and he wanted to direct it himself.
When “Toy Story 3” was released to global theaters in 2010, the ending showed that Andy, the boy who owns Woody and Buzz and all the other toys, has already grown up and decided to give his toys to a little girl as he goes off to college.
The toy gang will be back with a new owner
Andy has obviously outgrown his toys and there was no more story to tell after that as far as the once little boy was concerned.
But Disney has given it some thought after a few years and just a few months ago confirmed that there will be a “Toy Story 4.”
As far as the characters of the upcoming fourth installment of the very successful “Toy Story” franchise is concerned, it shall reportedly feature Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and most of the other toys that were present during the first three movies.
Although most of the rumored plotlines about “Toy Story 4” are mere speculations at this time, the consensus is saying that the film shall see Woody, Buzz, and the other toys going on another adventure to rescue Bo Peep.
Bo Peep, as fans of the film franchise know, is the love interest of Woody. It could be recalled that Bo Peep was given by Andy to someone else in “Toy Story 2” while he gave all his other toys to a young girl named Bonnie in “Toy Story 3.”
