‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ Keeps Gamers Hooked Even for Long Hours Because of its Strong Character Work

The critically-acclaimed role-playing game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is already in the video game retail market for nearly a year and a half already but many gamers and critics are still hooked on playing it.

Some critics actually regard the game as one of the longest games that they have come to play after a long, long while. It is one kind of video game that they want to complete even if it would take long hours to do so.

While long games have almost become passé these days, it seems that “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” has become an exception because once gamers start playing it, they are obliged by their own goals to finish and complete the game, regardless of how long it would take them.

One gaming critic shared that one of the reasons why “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” keeps him gripped is because of its strong character work even on its side quests.

While some features can be considered as inconsequential distractions to eat up time in many long games out in the market these days, the critic says that Geralt of Rivia and the world around him elicited value on his time, reports Rock Paper Shotgun.

A combination of non-linear story and an open world

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is a unique combination of a non-linear story and an open world featuring a character-driven story experience focusing on player choices, tactical combat, and a rich and living environment, details IGN.

The game also features a re-envisioned approach to the narrative. Combat has been redesigned in order to combine traditional RPG elements with the speed and precision of a dedicated fighting game.

As a massive role-playing game, some critics view “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” as too intimidating that it cannot be played right away without going to understand the first two games in the series.

However, there lies one of the major edges of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” over any other RPGs – its great storytelling.

Instead of creating a player character, the game has a defined character in Geralt of Rivia and he is quite fantastic. The game has the same molds of “Dragon Age: Inquisition” and “Mass Effect” but its main deviation from the formula is that the player doesn’t create a character. He plays as Geralt of Rivia, just like in the first two games of the series.

Not available on the PS4 Pro

Sony has recently launched two refined versions of the PlayStation 4, the PS4 Pro and the PS4 Neo which would officially make it to the retail markets in November this year.

The PS4 Pro appears to be the high-end variant of the PlayStation 4 highlighted by its 4K resolution feature among others.

CD Projekt Red, the Polish game developer of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” recently stated that it will not be issuing a patch for the game to support Sony’s PS4 Pro specifically the console’s 4K resolution feature.

The announcement disappointed a lot of PlayStation 4 gamers, many of whom are planning to migrate to the better PS4 Pro sooner or later. It came as a bit of surprise to them since CD Projekt Red supports the 4K feature of the game on the PC platform.

CD Projekt Red explains that it is a bit too much for them to work on three projects at the same time. The game developer is reportedly working on “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Gwent.” While it has the capability to upgrade the game and make it compatible to the 4K feature of the PS4 Pro, the conversion process shall be taking too much of its time and also its resources.

It added that converting the game to 4K for the PS4 Pro is just half of the work because the bigger challenge is developing the details of the game’s world. CD Projekt Red would still need to adjust the environment of the game to make it compatible with the 4K feature of the PS4 Pro.
