The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Premiere Reveals New Villain; Parallels Pilot Episode 7 Years Ago

The eighth final season of “The Vampire Diaries” kicked off last week and it fulfilled fans’ expectations and delivered tension and surprises for its season premiere.

The final season premiere opened with Damon and Enzo victimizing a couple and feeding them to the creature in the vault, who turns out to be a siren.

It is then explained that a siren entices her victims through her songs, turning them into slaves of her will. This was how she tricked Damon and Enzo into believing they are killing bad people when they are just, in fact, killing people to feed her.

Stefan, Bonnie, and Caroline are on a search for the two and are not stopping until they find them. Bonnie and Stefan also continue their journal for Elena to read them once she awakens.

Elsewhere, Stefan and Caroline make a huge step in their relationship and finally decided to live together with the twins, ironically through the urging of Alaric.

This was due to Virginia breaking into Caroline’s house and almost killing him. Alaric feared for his life and for her twin daughters as well hence, his suggestion.

As for Damon and Enzo, it looks like the two aren’t really the rippers they pretend to be. It’s pretty evident that Enzo still has it better than Damon, revealing that he has been leaving clues of their whereabouts for Bonnie and the group to figure out.

As for Damon, despite being under the control of the siren, he can still get a grasp on a few things in his life, including Elena and Stefan.

EW notes that the Season 8 premiere parallels a lot of the pilot episode that premiered back in 2009. In fact, the episode title “Hello Brother” was a line uttered in both episodes.

Before the episode closed, Stefan was able to locate his brother who revealed that he has turned his switch permanently off and there’s no way of bringing back the old Damon.

Fortunately, Damon still does care. The older Salvatore switched off his humanity so that the siren won’t know who he cares about to keep them safe.

Reports suggest that the final season will parallel the first season in many ways. For one, the title of the last 16 episodes will be lines from Season 1.

TV Guide reports that fans will know more about the siren villain in the next few episodes. Fans speculate that the siren is either Sybil or someone who Sybil offered her life to wreak havoc.

Despite the hype the season premiere has built up, The CW vampire drama still experienced a dip in its ratings. The show has been suffering since Dobrev’s exit and the network moving it to the Friday timeslot, along with its spin-off “The Originals,” did not help the ratings.

However, there are reports surfacing that Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena, will return for at least a few episodes in the current season to end the show on a great note.

As per Entertainment Online, Julie Plec somehow confirmed that the 27-year-old actress will reprise her role. Plec says that she and Nina have spoken and believes that Nina is 100% decided to return.

Fans will remember that Dobrev left the show after the sixth season so she could focus on her film commitments.

Her character was placed under a spell by Kai Parker that linked her life with Bonnie’s, which means that Elena will only wake up from her deep slumber when Bonnie dies.

Michael Trevino, who plays Tyler Lockwood has been revealed to have taken care of Elena’s body while he was away as well.
