‘Homeland’ Season 6 to See a Very Changed and Altered Peter Quinn, Confirms Showrunner

The sixth season of the American political thriller drama TV series “Homeland” on Showtime now has a release date of January 15, 2017.

It would be nearly 13 months since the show had its Season 5 finale in December 2015 but fans do not mind the wait as most of them are sure that the upcoming sixth season would feature another high-octane thrill ride with Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes.

Carrie will leave Germany for New York but there will be more on her plate in the upcoming Season 6 of “Homeland” despite lying low with the CIA.

However, she will not be alone in dealing with the bad guys just the same. Apparently, Peter Quinn, played by Rupert Friend, will be back in Season 6. However, given his condition in Season 5, it is unlikely that he will be able to help out Carrie, at least physically, in her new missions while in the Big Apple.

Quinn was exposed to the sarin gas in Season 5 which put him into a coma. During the Season 5 cliffhanger, it seems that Carrie has already removed the tubes going to his body as if to say that Peter has already expired.

A very changed person

But showrunner Alex Gansa confirmed that Peter Quinn is very much alive, much to the delight of the fans of “Homeland.” However, he also said that they are going to see a very changed and altered Peter Quinn in Season 6 of their favorite show, reports Moviepilot.

It is not clear what Gansa meant by being changed and altered but it could be an indication that Peter Quinn may indeed return but he will have some physical defects of some kind of difficulty.

Some critics are saying that the sarin gas may also bring about long-term positive effects on him and that is one of the things that fans should be looking forward to in Season 6 of “Homeland.”

The return of Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn was also confirmed on the ground when he was spotted back in August filming in New York.

But things do not look well for the actor’s character as he looks pretty edgy while sporting some disheveled hair, dingy clothes, and velcro shoes, that he actually looked more like American veterans who fought for their country once but did not get the support they deserved from the government.

Real-life injury

As if mimicking the physical ordeal of his character in “Homeland,” Rupert Friend was recently spotted at Showtime’s pre-Emmy event where he was seen on crutches.

Apparently, the actor was injured while he was filming the first and second episodes of “Homeland” Season 6, causing the delay in the filming of the TV series, notes People.

In an interview, Friend explained that he broke a bone in his right ankle while off work. However, the injury is related to two on-set occurrences during the production of Seasons 4 and 5 of “Homeland” when he rolled his foot, which further weakened his ligaments.

As a result, he has been temporarily sidelined from filming as the show’s executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter stepped in to shoot pieces of the episodes that could be filmed around Friend’s injury.

The actor is also very thankful for the support of the staff and crew to accommodate his injury and recovery.

Alex Gansa assured that “Homeland” Season 6 will still premiere on January 15, 2017 despite the slight delay in filming as a result of Friend’s injury.

Meanwhile, Saul Berenson, the character being portrayed by actor Mandy Patinkin in “Homeland.” will be exhibiting his strong faith to Carrie Mathison, in fighting terrorism despite no longer working for the CIA in the show’s upcoming sixth season.

During the show’s presentation at the New York ComicCon held early this month, Mandy Patinkin said that his character in the TV series will continue to be a good influence on everyone.

He also said that Carrie Mathison will be like a Vitamix in “Homeland” Season 6 because she will make everyone around her become stronger persons, in a positive way that is.

Showrunner Alex Gansa also confirmed the statements of Patinkin and hinted that the upcoming sixth season of “Homeland” shall focus on counter-terrorism efforts in New York City in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack.

He explained that the show wants to objectively sit back and look at how scared Americans should be. He added that the TV series does not want to contribute to that fear, pointing out that Season 6 of “Homeland” will not be about a certain bomb going off.

Gansa said that the next season of “Homeland,” which will premiere on Showtime on January 15, will tackle a different story compared to what was done in the previous season.

There are also reports saying that Carrie Mathison and Peter Quinn will be going back in the saddle as far as their romantic relationship is concerned.

It has already been confirmed by both Alex Gansa and actress Claire Danes during the New York ComicCon that Peter Quinn is very much alive despite being pronounced as brain dead during the Season 5 finale.

Apparently, Peter will undergo a therapy in New York and that Carrie will personally oversee his recovery and therapy sessions, spawning speculations that their previous romantic relationship might be revived in the Big Apple.
