There have been some interesting developments on the set of “Scandal”, and recent reports indicate that the producers have had to adjust their plans for the upcoming season 6, in order to better accommodate actress Kerry Washington as she was going through pregnancy.
Some shows choose to incorporate pregnancy into the character’s role when that happens, but it looks like Olivia Pope won’t be getting pregnant on the show’s screen. Or at least we haven’t seen any indications of that. On the other hand, there are claims that the new season 6 will come with a reduced episode set, precisely because of the pregnancy of the actress.
The release is currently scheduled for the earlier months of 2017, and production is already well underway. However, the network has been quiet regarding the current status of the actual filming work, and whether they are done with the scenes involving Kerry Washington.
Some fans are apparently slightly disappointed by the announcement about the season’s length, claiming that the producers could have just cut Washington’s character from the last few episodes. Given her character’s place in the plot and her overall importance though, we can’t see that easily happening.
Plus, we don’t know if the producers haven’t already decided to cut Olivia’s presence in the new season short as it is, so it might turn out that she’s not even in the entire shorter version of season 6. We still trust that the producers know what they’re doing in this regard though, as they’ve proven multiple times that they know how to handle the show in challenging moments.
Indeed, “Scandal” has gone through a lot since it started, but the show is still holding up nicely in the ratings department, and it’s also enjoying a strong following among its fans. Many people are excited to see season 6 when it arrives next year, and even if it does feature a smaller number of episodes, we expect that the producers will make up for the quantity with quality.
And let’s not forget that this is actually the second time Kerry Washington has gone through pregnancy while “Scandal” was being filmed, and the last time things turned out just fine. Back then, the producers also had to release a shorter season, but fans enjoyed the new episodes and were pleased with the way the show evolved.
We’ve been hearing some pleasant reports from the set of the show too, with claims that pretty much everyone around Kerry Washington has been contributing in some way to making her feel more comfortable and relaxed while she was working pregnant.
This is also a good sign about the overall state of things behind the set as well, as it indicates that the actors involved in the show are comfortable with their own work right now. Let’s hope that this will allow them to truly push themselves for season 6, and deliver a set of new episodes like the fans have never seen before.

But there is most probably nothing to worry about, considering that it’s far too early to make any predictions for the show’s future this early on.
