Over the past couple of weeks, there have been plenty of rumors going around about the plotline for the upcoming fifth season of the American political drama TV series “House of Cards” on Netflix.
The consensus of the rumors was saying that Doug Stamper, played on the show by actor Michael Kelly, the most trusted ally and loyal friend of Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, would turn his back on his benefactor and betray Frank.
There are even reports saying that Stamper would be the one to kill the US President and serve the vacant position to the next-in-line in the person of Vice President Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright.
Accordingly, Claire would use the love interest of Doug Stamper to be able to control him and turn him against Frank.
But actor Michael Kelly said that Frank is a massive part of Doug’s life in so many ways. They have trusted each other to the ends of the earth. He explained that Frank and Doug are the only two people that each of them could count on. He said that as much as Frank would never turn on Doug, Doug would never turn on Frank. That is where Doug belongs, details the Ecumenical News.
A test of his faithfulness
There are also reports saying that Doug’s loyalty and faithfulness to Frank would be tested in the upcoming Season 5 of “House of Cards” especially considering that the US President could officially be ousted from the office because of his declining health condition.
The speculations are also very consistent in saying that it would be Claire Underwood who would be plotting the downfall of her husband from power and she is reportedly eyeing to use Frank’s right-hand man and confidant Doug Stamper to turn the tables on her husband who just happens to be the President of the US.
It can be recalled that over the past four seasons of “House of Cards,” Frank never really encountered a very worthy adversary amid his political wheelings and dealings.
That would reportedly change in Season 5 as it has already been hinted in Season 4 that his wife and usual collaborator in Claire has already shown signs of defiance to some of Frank’s wishes, details the Vine Report.
Suffering humiliation of defeat
Michael Kelly actually had a mouthful to say during a recent interview with regards to the possible plotline of the fifth season of the hit show.
Kelly recalled that immediately after Season 3, he and former showrunner Beau Willimon talked about the future of “House of Cards.”
Willimon told Kelly that there are two ways that the show could proceed. Either the fans could see the tandem of Frank Underwood and Doug Stamper rampage their way to success or see them both fall into hard times after achieving success.
Back then, Willimon wanted to go into the direction where Frank and Doug would suffer the humiliation of defeat after continuously having their wicked ways and get away with it all the time.
However, Beau Willimon already left the show after the Season 4 finale so it remains to be seen if the new showrunner will follow the idea of his predecessor or come up with something entirely different.
The rumors about the plotline of Season 5 of “House of Cards” seem pretty consistent in saying that Frank would not just be succumbing to political failure, he would actually meet his demise.
As to how it is going to happen, the rumors are saying that it could either be through illness or Doug Stamper could be the one to murder him under the directive of Vice President Claire Underwood.
