Season 5 of the American comedy-drama TV series “Orange is the New Black” is still months away from premiering on Netflix and reports have been aplenty on the internet regarding its possible plotline.
What seems confirm at this point is that Season 5 shall be focusing on the fallout after the death of Poussey, played by Samira Wiley, during a prison riot in Season 4.
Accordingly, no one will be more affected than her best friend in Litchfield Penitentiary, Taystee, played by Danielle Brooks.
The actress said that viewers would see in Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black” a very different Taystee. She pointed out that the character would be way different from the same one that they saw during the show’s very first episode, notes the Vine Report.
She added that Taystee will change the biggest in the upcoming fifth season of “Orange is the New Black” when the series returns on Netflix in June of next year.
Taystee lost her mother and then she lost her best friend Poussey to a murderer who has yet to be identified so she will turn into a character who is ready for war.
Brooks said that Taystee will be very different from the happy character that inmates and fans have come to know at the beginning of “Orange is the New Black,” reports the Parent Herald.
In a dark place
The upcoming fifth season of “Orange is the New Black” shall also provide an answer to the cliffhanger left during the Season 4 finale on whether Daya, played by Dascha Polanco, who was last seen pointing a gun at the head of Humphrey, played by Michael Torpey, would really pull the trigger or not.
Polanco said that her character is in a dark place, having been a victim of circumstance, which seems to be a cycle in her life that just keeps on repeating.
The actress said that she can see Daya pulling the trigger on Humphrey because the character is suffering from postpartum depression. She explained that a woman going through that kind of depression is very sensitive and fragile.
In any case, given the fact that she pointed the gun at an officer with an intention to kill, Daya would suffer the consequences of her action whether or not she pulls the trigger on Humphrey or not. She could get into a far worse situation if she fired the gun for sure.
Based on recent reports, Daya shall reportedly hit rock bottom in the upcoming Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black.”
There are speculations saying that Daya will most likely be sent to the Special Housing Unit in the aftermath of her gun-pointing offense where she shall reportedly experience the lowest point of her life.
There are also rumors saying that the reason why Daya would be sent to the SHU is because she actually shot Humphrey and the move was part of her punishment.
It is not clear though if Humphrey would be alive after Daya shot him but it further led to subsequent speculations that her alleged boyfriend Correctional Officer John Bennett, played by Matt McGorry, might be returning as well on Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black.”
Helping Daya in her predicament
Fans would recall that it was Bennett who also got Daya pregnant so it would be interesting to see how things would shape up for the two of them in the upcoming season of “Orange is the New Black.” But by the look of things, the plot seems a good storyline already for the popular TV series.
Bennett is bound to help Daya in her predicament some way, according to rumors, which was fuelled by a recent post by McGorry on his Instagram account where he showed a photo of himself and co-star Laverne Cox, who plays Sophia Burset in the TV series.
While the actor’s post did not indicate that he is referring to Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black,” fans took it to mean that he is indeed returning to the series to reprise his character.
