‘Wayward Pines’ Season 3 to Feature a More Explosive Story; Fans Confident Fox Would Greenlit the Show

Up until this time, Fox has yet to make an announcement whether to renew the American psychological thriller “Wayward Pines” for a third season or not.

But most fans of the TV series are optimistic of the chance of “Wayward Pines” for a possible renewal because they have been saying that Season 3 of their favorite show would be featuring a much more explosive story in its third run, reports the Christian Daily.

Some of the fans of “Wayward Pines” have expressed their apprehension that Fox might no longer renew the show for a third season apparently because the network has been having some doubts on the TV series as a whole.

Other fans have also been saying that Season 2 of “Wayward Pines” was quite a slow cooker compared to the crisp Season 1 episodes. It is probably the reason why Fox Television Group CEO Dana Walden are having her second thoughts about the TV series.

But it seems that Walden has already verbally agreed for a Season 3 renewal of “Wayward Pines” when she said in a recent interview that she definitely thinks that the TV series deserves a Season 3. She also commended “Wayward Pines” for being the No. 1 scripted show of the summer, despite having exhausted its source material on its first season alone.

Still waiting for resolutions

Another factor that Fox is possibly considering at the moment is the huge cliffhanger that was intentionally left by the showrunners during the Season 2 finale in preparation for a Season 3.

Fans have been waiting for some kind of resolutions among the secondary characters of “Wayward Pines” including Margaret, played by Rochelle Okoye, Adam Hassler, played by Tim Griffin, and Kerry Campbell, played by Kacey Rohl, details the Parent Herald.

There are also reports saying that Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” shall feature a time jump and the storyline will just backtrack on the events as the show and the storyline progress.

However, all these remain as speculations pending the confirmation from Fox, the showrunners, or the cast members of “Wayward Pines.” Until then, all information should be taken with a pinch of salt.

No happy ending at all

Blake Crouch, the author of the “Wayward Pines” book trilogy and one of the executive producers of the TV series of the same title on Fox, revealed in a recent interview that the upcoming third season of the show will be a study about the final hours of the human race in light of the ascendancy of the Abbies.

It can be recalled that the Season 2 finale of “Wayward Pines” saw the humans getting overmatched by the Abbies.

Blake Crouch says that the upcoming third season of the show will unlikely to have a happy ending for everyone.

Crouch hinted that Season 3 of “Wayward Pines” could focus on the deterioration of the human race and its possible extinction.

The author explained that “Wayward Pines” has always been about mankind and the idea that mankind’s time on Earth is not infinite, adding that the questions that interest people is whether mankind is facing either an absolute extinction or not or whether the species is aware of its impending extinction or not.

He also said that the third season of the TV series is likely to be its last, consistent with his book trilogy.

He added that his vision for the finale of the series will be a realistic one and will not serve as some cheesy and hokey ending.

“Wayward Pines” was a surprise hit when it first aired on Fox, but the second season’s lukewarm reviews did not immediately earn it a renewal. However, both fans and Fox CEO Dana Walden remain hopeful.

Crouch confirmed that he and the other executive producers of the show came up with a three-season arc so they expect to conclude “Wayward Pines” in its third season and be done with it.

The extinction of the humankind shall be because of the ascendancy of the Abbies, which were seen in Season 2, fighting a battle with the humans.

Crouch said that Season 3 will be a study of the final hours of the human race against the ascendancy of the Abbies and it would focus into an Abbie-dominated world, reports the Parent Herald.
