It’s recently been revealed that “Mass Effect: Andromeda” won’t make it for a 2016 release as was originally planned, but fans will rather have to wait until 2017 to see it.
And while this came as an understandable disappointment to most supporters of the franchise, it’s also interesting to note that many actually don’t seem to mind the extra wait, and apparently prefer that if it means avoiding the fiasco that happened with “Mass Effect 3”.
Those who played the last major entry in the franchise probably still remember the disappointing ending it had, as the developers of the game tried unsuccessfully to move the story in an unusual direction for the franchise.
The final result was a disaster, with many fans leaving angry reviews just because of the ending alone. Things got so bad that the developers eventually released an add-on for the game which “fixed” the ending, but by that point the damage was already done.
“Mass Effect 3” left a bitter taste in many people’s mouths, and we can only imagine the careful steps the developers must be taking behind the scenes to avoid repeating that incident now.
When is the game coming out exactly, anyway? There doesn’t seem to be a solid answer in sight for that question, and EA have been typically quiet on the issue. Most fans suspect that the game will be ready around the summer season, given that there’s pretty much no official information about the release date yet.
That would match EA’s typical release flow, although it’s also possible that the studio could take a different approach this time, given the special nature of this game. “Mass Effect: Andromeda” is highly anticipated among fans of the franchise and the gaming community as a whole, and EA could easily change their workflow just to make it an even more successful release.
Meanwhile, developer BioWare has been completely quiet, refusing to give out any details about the game at all. Fans have still been trying to get their hands on any kind of information, but needless to say we probably shouldn’t expect any major reveals before the game is ready.
We actually wouldn’t be surprised if the release of “Mass Effect: Andromeda” is approached with a lot more secrecy and care by everyone involved, as one wrong claim can easily get things moving in the wrong direction.
On the other hand, many fans seem to agree that too much secrecy can also be harmful for this release, and fans definitely shouldn’t be left feeling like they’re getting a major surprise up until the very end. There’s probably a nice middle ground that EA and BioWare should aim for, but we suspect that both companies are already carefully evaluating their plans in this regard.
And while they both seem to be trying their best to conceal information about the game, details have been making their way to the public one way or another. The release date of the game is speculated to be in March next year, but this is currently based on a leak that may or may not be true.
The leak actually comes from Amazon, but even though we’ve seen release dates for other games correctly revealed on the site in the past, fans should probably avoid giving too much credibility to the posting. It’s possible that it was just a mistake and is not indicative of EA’s actual plans.
