Even though “Clash Royale” is without doubt the most solid earner for developer Supercell right now, they are still paying active attention to their older titles. “Clash of Clans” just got another major update, which not only revised some of the game’s core mechanics, but also added new elements obviously inspired from its “sister game”.
The Quick Train feature now allows players to save certain army configurations, and easily train them whenever they need an army with specific units. This should come in handy for those who don’t like to go through the tedious process of endlessly tapping on various units to fill up their army.
There are also new “Friendly Wars”, which are just what they sound like. Players can challenge their comrades to battle, although the overall war is shorter than the traditional ones which were already in the game before.
New changes in the buildings/troops have arrived as well, as the developers are clearly still looking to fine-tune the balance of the game in some areas. We expect to see further updates in this regard, especially for the Bomb Tower which will likely be given a lot of attention with the next few patches.
Last but not least, the game now also gives special offers to players who’ve reached certain milestones, like upgrading their Town Hall to a new level. The offers work just like in “Clash Royale”, allowing the player to spend real money on a very attractive bundle for a limited time.
The bundles sometimes include new/upgraded buildings, or, when the player manages to complete that building while the offer is still active, extra Dark Elixir. Lots of resources are offered as well, and many players have reported strong satisfaction with the quality of this deal.
It’s clear that Supercell still know how to make money even from their older titles, and we don’t expect them to give up on monetizing “Clash of Clans” or “Boom Beach” anytime soon. If anything, we fully expect the studio to keep exploring their options for increasing their profits in multiple ways.
“Clash Royale” has actually been a great influence on “Clash of Clans”, and we’ve seen some interesting additions in the latter thanks to the new game. Even more new units are likely going to be added in the near future, as there have been hints that the developers want to “equalize” the content of the two games as much as possible.
It’s been an interesting ride for fans of “Clash of Clans”, as even though Supercell made some questionable decisions with the game at several points, they’ve still managed to preserve most of their fans and have kept them happy.
They put a lot of effort into recovering from the situation around the “Clan Wars” update, for example, and now they’re actively paying attention to their fans’ wishes with regards to the balance of the game. With that in mind, we fully expect to see some additional balance updates in the coming weeks.
Some players have also been asking for a more in-depth look at the game’s current progression and XP mechanics. It’s true that those have been left relatively untouched for most of its existence, but there’s a good reason for that. “Clash of Clans” was planned around a certain progression pace from the beginning, and the developers obviously wouldn’t want to break that right now.
