‘Reign’ Season 4 to See Queen Mary of Scots Forced to Marrying a Murderer in Bothwell!

The fourth season of the American historical drama TV series “Reign” is all set to air on The CW early next year and many are speculating that it could be the final season for the show.

The show suffered from poor ratings during its third season but The CW still decided to renew the show for a fourth season in order to allow the showrunners and writers perhaps to give the TV series a satisfying conclusion for the benefit of its loyal fans and viewers.

But there are also reports saying that Season 4 could be a touch-and-go moment for “Reign” because if the TV show earns positive ratings after it is moved from its usual fall premiere to a mid-season debut, there is a good chance that the TV series could still be renewed by the network for at least one more season.

However, it is imperative for the TV series to have a very good and interesting plotline to keep viewers glued and improve its ratings.

It seems that the show is in the right direction towards such end as the focus of Season 4 of “Reign” would be on Queen Mary of Scots, played by Adelaide Kane.

According to latest reports, Queen Mary will once again find love in the upcoming fourth season of “Reign” but her journey to her second and third marriage would be life-threatening at some point, notes the Christian Times.

Marrying a killer

Based on the previous hints and also on history, Queen Mary will enter into her second marriage with Lord Darnley, to be played by Will Kemp.

It could be recalled that back in Season 3, Mary’s first husband, Francis, played by Tony Regbo, was killed.

However, the marriage of Lord Darnley and Queen Mary will not last too as Darnley was murdered a year into their marriage.

While it has not been specifically pointed out yet, there are reports saying that the killer is presumed to be the man that Queen Mary will eventually marry to officially become her third husband.

Reports have it that Mary will marry for the third time but not out of love but because she will be forced into it. She will marry Bothwell, played by Adam Croasdell. Based on history, Bothwell is one of the people suspected to be responsible for killing Mary’s second husband.

He also reportedly kidnapped the Queen and threatened to kill her if she did not agree to marry him.

However, it remains a mystery if Mary was forced into marriage by Bothwell although many people at that time believed she was. This led to Bothwell fleeing and completely leaving Mary, based on history.

It is unknown if this will all be depicted in “Reign” Season 4 as Croasdell and Kemp are only signed for four episodes although going beyond that is up to them.

Avoiding ‘Game of Thrones’

There were reports saying that Season 4 of “Reign” is going to be a test-case for the show. If it does well in the ratings, there is a strong possibility that The CW would renew it for another season. If it continues to experience the decline in its ratings, then Season 4 is going to be the last for the show.

Reign Season 4

However, when The CW pushed back the release date of “Reign” from its regular fall premiere to early next year, the notions that the TV series’ fourth season is going to be its last have strengthened all the more.

But according to supposed insiders of the show, the reason why “Reign” Season 4 release date was pushed back is because the TV series does not want to air at the same time that “Game of Thrones” is airing on HBO.
