‘Devious Maids’ Fans Still Hopeful That Show Can Get a Closure in Some Way Despite Cancellation of the TV Series for Season 5!

The Season 4 finale of the American comedy-drama TV series “Devious Maids” aired on August 8 on Lifetime and shortly thereafter, the network decided not to renew the show for a fifth season.

While there were already rumors of the show’s likely cancellation because of its significant ratings decline, fans were still caught by surprise by the decision of Lifetime to cancel the show after its Season 4 finale.

And that is because Season 4 left a major cliffhanger – Marisol Suarez, played by Ana Ortiz, disappeared on her wedding day which fans attributed to either kidnapping or cold feet. But since the show has already been canceled, they would never know what the true answer to their guesses on the fate of the series’ lead character.

Even show executive producer Sabrina Wind was caught off guard by the decision of Lifetime since she and the writers actually crafted the Season 4 finale because they are confident of a Season 5 renewal.

When the showrunner was asked about Marisol’s disappearance, she said that they have many thoughts of what it all means. She even cited that had “Devious Maids” been renewed for a fifth season, the upcoming season will have a completely new story, details the Christian Times.

Still hopeful but passive

Fans are still hopeful though that they could get a closure to their show despite its cancellation although it seems that there is no attempt at this time from the show’s producers to ask Lifetime to reconsider its decision canceling the TV series or any plan to liaise with another network to rescue the show from cancellation. There is also no petition from fans either.

The main cast of characters of “Devious Maids” seemed to have accepted the fact that the show is already canceled for good.

They have all turned to their social media accounts to express their gratitude to fans for the support throughout the series’ four seasons.

When Lifetime let the ax fall on “Devious Maids,” the network did not cite any reason for its decision but critics already assume that it has something to do with its poor ratings.

When Season 1 premiered four years back, it has an average of three million viewers. However, during the entire run of Season 4, the show was able to pack in a little less than a million viewers which made it easier for Lifetime to make the decision.

The show experienced a steady decline in viewership each season but its average for Season 4 remained consistent throughout the season. Furthermore, the show’s average number of viewers was still twice more than Lifetime’s original TV show “UnReal.”

Confusion and disappointment

Fans expressed confusion and disappointment with Lifetime’s decision to cancel “Devious Maids” after its Season 4 finale.

They took to Twitter to ask Ana Ortiz about her character’s fate and the series’ cancellation. In one of her responses, Ortiz replied by saying that she cannot tell people what she does not know so she just put a hashtag insinuating that fans should ask Lifetime instead.

The actress also said that her character always lands on her feet. It may not be much but fans can be assured that all is well with Marisol wherever she may be, notes Game & Guide.

Dania Ramirez, who played as Rosie Falta in the TV series, sent her love through her Instagram page after the “Devious Maids” Season 5 cancellation news broke out.

Devious Maids Season 3

Just like the rest of the cast, Ramirez was full of gratitude for the network and crew who supported them throughout. She said that her character will live on forever now.

It is not clear if there are back channeling negotiations that are ongoing to give the show a formal closure but many fans are confident and hopeful that all is not lost on “Devious Maids.”

“Devious Maids” focuses on a closely-knit group of maids who are working for some of the most powerful families of Beverly Hills, California.
