The rumors may be out to get Kody Brown, the patriarch of the polygamous Brown family in the family drama reality TV series “Sister Wives” on TLC.
First, there were reports saying that Kody Brown was planning to junk all his four wives in the upcoming eighth season of the TV series and replace them with four new ones.
Surprisingly, the speculations were far different from what happened during the Season 7 finale of “Sister Wives” where Kody had that tell-all interview with Erica Hill. He never mentioned nor showed any inkling that he is already sick and tired of the polygamous set-up or that he is giving up all his four wives.
What he did say is that at 47 years old, he is already old enough not to have another baby in the family.
Now, the rumors have metamorphosed and are now saying that Season 8 of “Sister Wives” has already been canceled by TLC. The same set of rumors further gets interesting when it was mentioned that the network might do a spin-off of the TV series featuring the four wives – Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn, but minus Kody Brown, reports the Inquisitr.
Going the way of “19 Kids and Counting”
In effect, “Sister Wives” shall reportedly go the way of another former TLC show, “19 Kids and Counting” featuring Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their big family.
When TLC decided to cancel the TV series in light of the child molestation scandal involving Josh Duggar, the eldest among the Duggar brood, the network eventually decided to create a spin-off TV series entitled “Jill and Jessa: Counting On,” details the Parent Herald.
According to reports, there is now a big possibility that “Sister Wives” will take the same route because TLC is already piqued apparently with the rumors of Kody Brown speaking his intentions to leave his four wives and replaced them with four new ones.
Some critics believe that the case of “Sister Wives” is far different from the case of “19 Kids and Counting,” because there is no scandalous issue involved. Even if the rumors are true that Kody Brown is planning to marry two more wives, he can still do so without breaking the law, at least in states where polygamy is allowed, whereas child molestation is both a moral crime and a felony.
A spinoff TV series without Kody Brown on it means there is no polygamy plotline involve which is what sells to viewers of “Sister Wives” in the first place.
It should be noted, however, that all of these remain as speculations pending the confirmation from Kody Brown and his family or better yet, from TLC.
So until an official word of confirmation or denial is released, all information regarding the upcoming Season 8 of “Sister Wives” should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
Circumventing the state law against polygamy
TLC has yet to confirm whether there would be a Season 8 of “Sister Wives” and most of the reports are saying that the show is now in jeopardy of being canceled for good.
However, many fans of the TV series, believe that the rumors of cancellation are meant only to hype “Sister Wives” for its upcoming Season 8, the same way the show experienced before the start of Seasons 6 and 7.
“Sister Wives” happens to be one of the top-rating shows on TLC so it would be unwise for the network to let go of a TV series that is bringing in the viewers and the money to its coffers.
Indicative of the possibility that Season 8 of “Sister Wives” would materialize is the recent move of the polygamist Brown family from Lehi, Utah to Las Vegas in the state of Nevada.
It was the family lawyer Jonathan Turley who confirmed that the family decided to move out of the state because of Utah’s law against the practice of polygamy.
Turley said that the transfer of residence has been an extended and difficult struggle for the Brown family, who maintains that they have never wavered in their commitment towards defending the important tenets of religious freedom.
Critics believe that if “Sister Wives” is to be canceled for Season 8, then the Brown family would no longer move to Las Vegas and just stick to Utah since the rumors have been swirling wildly that everyone is about to bail out from the family.

Kody, rightly, feels that Meri has disparaged both him and Polygamy to huge degree, beyond the point of possible forgiveness. Sam was the first in a long line of people that got Meri to see that she was being used and abused by Kody under the guise of the doctrine long abandoned and condemned by the LDS. Kody pressured Meri into yielding to his will against her best interests and for his selfish and greedy ends. Now she does who and what she wants.
Meri and Janelle have each recently established new businesses to earn income to enable them to keep payments up so that they do not lose their respective houses now that the show has been pulled from the lineup. Robyn and Christine are still in the formative stages of doing the same. Kody, not to be left penniless, has devised various pitches that he is presenting to a number of network executives involving various numbers of new wives. Interest, so far, has been lacking for his proposals.
