Mia Khalifa recently got embroiled in another Twitter controversy with a fake or make-up columnist of Fansided, wherein she also has a weekly football column, and the management seems to have sided with her and the fans on the issue leading to the sacking of the editor-in-chief of the sports news website, Jim Cavan.
Over the past few days, the former adult film star has been getting it on with Fansided columnist Burt Gertson on Twitter.
Gertson is described as a 54-year-old sportswriting veteran with experience at the New York Post and has been writing for Fansided for about six weeks already.
For some reason, the columnist took a swipe at Mia Khalifa in one of his columns. But the former pornstar is the type of person who does not take crap from anybody without giving something in return.
Their Twitter feud reached its height on September 29 when Mia Khalifa responded to the swipe at her by Gertson on his column when she posted that she is just glad that she works remotely and not in the office so that she does not have to put a cocktail napkin over her coffee when she leaves her desk.
Burt Gertson then tweeted that she just got off the horn with HR saying that they were not fans of his column which they described as misogynistic and chauvinistic.
He also added that HR also told him that if he did not issue an apology to Mia Khalifa, his contract would be terminated.
Mia Khalifa responded to the two tweets by saying that she thinks Gertson is used to being called as misogynistic and chauvinistic and also said that his apology is not accepted so he should not lie easily.
Defending Gertson
After the Twitter exchange, Fansided editor-in-chief Jim Cavan was asked to comment on the issue and he claimed that Gertson is indeed a real person who runs his own account and writes his own columns.
Cavan also explained that Gertson is absolutely accomplishing what the site wanted him to do.
But Fansided, later on, denied that Burt Gertson is a real person and confirmed that the column and the columnist is a fictional satire.
According to the site, it was honestly meant to be in good fun. It also admitted that if the humor was not funny, it was their fault. They explained that it was absolutely meant as a humor and that Mia Khalifa was also in on the joke from the start, reports The Big Lead.
The site went on to elaborate that the point of Burt’s column is to highlight generational chasms in the sportswriting world.
Public apology
Perhaps because of the fan backlash and negative comments on what the site did, Fansided issued a public statement expressing its apology to its fans and readers.
Fansided said that they have recently published an article which failed to represent their commitment to professionalism. It said that the article entitled “Series of Tubes: Khalifa Madness,” was an ill-conceived attempt at satire.
The site apologized to those whom they offended and assure fans and readers that it is not reflective of what their organization stands for. It does not represent the network of amazing people and properties that make Fansided truly unique, the site added.
After careful consideration, it also said that the employment of Fansided.com’s editor-in-chief has been terminated.
The Fansided management team hopes that fans and readers look at their long track record of passionate yet professional content and continue to trust and enjoy all Fansided has to offer.
Incidentally, she is arguably the most popular former porn star on Twitter these days and Mia Khalifa is one loyal fan for her preferred teams.
The Lebanon-born but America-raised beauty is a known fan of Washington teams for professional sports since she worked out some sort of agreement with Monumental Sports and Entertainment (MSE), the owners of the Washington teams in the NBA, the NHL, and the MBL.
But she loves her football even before she became the most searched porn star on Pornhub early last year, just a couple of months after agreeing to become an adult film star in October 2014.
