Chilean Gonzalo Barrios, who is known in the gaming community of the fighting game “Super Smash Bros 4” as ZeRo, has come out again as the champion of the Smash 4 singles competition during the Shine 2016 event held late last month.
He won the “Super Smash Bros 4” Wii U singles leg of Shine 2016 as a member of the Team SoloMid by sweeping Panda Global’s Eric ‘ESAM’ Lew 3-0 in the grand finals, details eSports.
The Chilean gamer took Battlefield, a level on “Super Smash Bros 4,” without losing stock on his signature Diddy and did the same on Dream Land 64.
ESAM, on the other hand, switched from Pikachu to Samus on Duck Hunt and took a single stock, but ZeRo won the stage handily for a nearly flawless 3-0 sweep over his opponent who appears stunned.
The victory is the eighth Smash 4 singles title for ZeRo that he has earned just for this year even after suffering a finger injury recently.
A personal tier list
After winning the Smash 4 singles title in Shine 2016, ZeRo started working on his personal tier list project for the “Super Smash Bros 4” on the Wii U by coming up with the game’s top players in order of strength as sort of tips to other gamers.
He previously attempted to come up with a list but it was interrupted. His latest attempt was successful this time as there was no patch released by Nintendo that previously interrupted his previous tries.
The gamer came with two videos. The first one shows him detailing the strengths and weakness of the remaining top 20 characters of “Super Smash Bros 4” when the game is played on the Wii U, notes Event Hubs.
Critics have noted that ZeRo’s list is extremely different from Smashboard v2.0 tier list, so the second video shows the gamer going into great detail explaining why he feels each character he listed deserves the position that he assigned them.
ZeRo’s tier list certainly has a few surprise entries but the Chilean gamer justified all their inclusion through his video explanations.
Not too long ago, Nintendo was getting a beating from Sony and Microsoft in terms of gaming consoles. Although it was doing a lot better in the game development segment, it was having a tough time overcoming the advantage of its two major competitors in the gaming console market, particularly in the US.
‘Super Smash Bros 4’ leads Nintendo resurgence
It seems that Nintendo has picked up the pieces of its disappointing years and is now making a complete turnaround both in the video game and console sales performance.
As a matter of fact, Nintendo recently announced some outstanding sales statistics for the month of June in the US, anchored on the excellent showing of the popular fighting game “Super Smash Bros.”
Nintendo reported that “Super Smash Bros” has passed two million sales in the Wii U, surpassed three million sales in the 3DS. The Japanese game company also announced that the game sold 4.8 million units worldwide on the Wii U as of March 31 while it shipped 8.12 million copies of the game on the 3DS during the same period.
The Japanese gaming company also announced that the physical version of “Minecraft” on Wii U landed in the No. 11 position on the NPD Group’s bestseller list. Nintendo disclosed that the full list was released on July 21.
In terms of gaming console sales, Nintendo announced that weekly sales of 3DS family systems, including the 3DS and 2DS, maintained an average weekly sales increase of 39% in May this year. The 2DS also dropped in price to $80 in the US during the same month.
Meanwhile, during the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) 2016 held in July in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nintendo was very elated to know that “Super Smash Bros Melee” has generated 2,372 entrants in the tournament.
