‘Frozen 2’ Expected to Get Additional Boost from ‘Olaf Christmas Special’ Slated in the Holiday of Next Year

After “Frozen” was released in November 2013 and came out as the most successful animated movie of all time, Disney released the short film “Frozen Fever” in March last year that was shown in theaters along with the live-action “Cinderella” movie.

It has already been confirmed that “Frozen 2” shall be released in theaters sometime in 2018 although Disney has yet to announce a specific date.

While the excitement about “Frozen 2” has never wavered one bit online since it was greenlit by Disney executives last year, fans have been longing for the real thing and it would be a couple more years down the road before they can actually see something concrete on theaters.

Apparently, it is not going to be the case anymore. Actress Kristen Bell, who lent her voice to Princess Ann, has just confirmed that they are now working on another “Frozen” short film, likely to be longer than “Frozen Fever” but definitely shorter than “Frozen.”

It is going to be an “Olaf Christmas Special” which would not be made for theaters but for television. The “Frozen” Christmas special shall be released on ABC in Christmas of next year, according to the 36-year-old actress, details the iTech Post.

As its title implies, the TV animation special shall be focusing on the cheerful snowman, Olaf and it is expected that the whole gang shall be there including Princess Anna, Queen Elsa, Kristoff, and Sven, the same way they all showed up in “Frozen Fever.”

More importantly, it gives anxiously waiting fans of “Frozen 2” a serving of “Frozen” two years after “Frozen Fever” and one year before “Frozen 2” hits the theaters. The TV special is also expected to boost the promotional efforts for “Frozen 2” in the process, despite the fact that the franchise need no such expensive promotion because it can easily sell on its own.

Her dream duet

Incidentally, actress Idina Menzel, who lends her voice to Queen Elsa, attended the iHeartRadio Music Festival held over the weekend and she was quoted as saying that her dream duet is with U2’s lead vocalist Bono.

She probably made the remarks after seeing Miley Cyrus during the event having a duet with Billy Idol for the iconic rocker’s song “Rebel Yell.”

Menzel said that if there is someone whom she would like to do a duet or collaborate with for a song, it is going to be Bono. She said that it has all she has ever said to do as a musician. And she is still hoping that she gets a chance to sing with Bono someday, reports the International Business Times.

Menzel’s iHeartRadio Music Festival attendance comes just a day after her fifth studio album was released. The self-titled album consists of 12 tracks, including “I See You,” “Small World,” and “Queen of Swords.”

The 45-year-old singer-actress said that her latest album was the most personal and introspective album she has ever made as the past two years of her life had been a rollercoaster ride. For instance, her film “Frozen” became one of the biggest animated movies of all time even as her divorce from Taye Diggs was finalized.

Menzel is set to reprise her role as Queen Elsa in “Frozen 2” as well as the “Olaf Christmas Special” that has just been announced recently.

Unlikely to be gay

Unlike her sister Princess Anna, Queen Elsa of Arendelle did not have a romantic pair in the most successful animated movie of all time, “Frozen,” when it was released to global theaters in November 2013.

When Disney confirmed that “Frozen 2” is a go, there were petitions from members of LGBT communities asking the entertainment conglomerate to consider Queen Elsa’s character as gay and that she should be given a girlfriend.
