When the Samsung Galaxy S6 came out last year, everybody thought that the Korean tech giant would find it difficult to even come out with an even better flagship smartphone.
Samsung proved the skeptics wrong when it released the Galaxy S7 in March this year which indeed came out better than its predecessor.
Now, the same is being said about the Galaxy S7. Because it looks and performs so good, Samsung might be hard-pressed to match, let alone surpass it on its next flagship offering, the Galaxy S8.
But if the rumored specifications and features of the Samsung Galaxy S8 going the rounds on the internet are to be the basis, the Korean tech giant is bound to release an even better flagship smartphone than the Galaxy S7.
Based on the so-called leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S8, it shall have seriously impressive features including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 octa-core processor with 6GB of RAM and a 64GB of internal storage that can still be expanded via a microSD card slot.
In addition, the handset shall reportedly have 2160 x 4096 or 4K resolution display, a 4,200 mAh battery, a retina and fingerprint scanner, wireless and fast-charging feature, and a mini-projector, reports Tech Radar.
It shall reportedly have a 30-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 12-megapixel front-facing snapper.
Very sensational specifications
With the exception of the 4,200 mAh battery and the 64GB built-in internal storage, all the rest of the basic specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S8 appear to be very sensational because aside from groundbreaking, they actually look almost impossible at this time.
One clear example is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor, which has yet to come out even by next year because the microchip company is still in development of the Snapdragon 821 chipset. So a Snapdragon 830 processor seems way off the mark.
The 4K resolution display is also a bit of an exaggeration since having such kind of resolution on a handset is not as necessary as in a TV set, a laptop, or a desktop.
And there is also the 30-megapixel rear-facing camera which is way too grand for the current trend among camera makers these days. A 30-MP camera does not sound likely because previous rumors about the camera phone of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is that it shall have either a 13-MP or 12-MP rear-facing camera.
While it is not impossible at this time but in the context of being a camera phone, a 30-megapixel resolution is simply out of this world, point out critics.
A more grounded set of rumors
There are also more grounded set of rumors saying that the Korean tech giant is considering using ARM’s new Mali-G71 GPU, which would offer a significant performance boost to the Samsung Galaxy S8 compared to the Galaxy S7, notes Trusted Reviews.
The rumored GPU shall be built into the Exynos 8895 system-on-a-chip that shall reportedly power the Galaxy S8. This rumor is actually more realistic compared to the so-called Qualcomm Snapdragon 830.
Accordingly, the Mali-G71 is ARM’s top-of-the-line mobile GPU built using the company’s new Bitfrost architecture. It also uses 16-nm chip clocked at 850MHz.
Mali-G71 was developed to meet the needs of Vulkan, which is the powerful, cross-platform API built by Khronos. Samsung already added support for Vulkan in the Galaxy S7, so it would be surprising if the same is not going to be true for the Galaxy S8.
Incidentally, Samsung Galaxy S8 is going to be the flagship smartphone of the Korea tech giant in the high-end handset market next year to succeed the Galaxy S7, currently enjoying its run.
