Season 4 of the American comedy-drama TV series “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix ended with a cliffhanger where Daya, played by Dascha Polanco, was shown pointing a gun at Correctional Officer Thomas Humphrey, played by Michael Torpey, following the prison riot that broke out in Litchfield Penitentiary.
The question that was left to the viewers to answer was whether Daya pulled the trigger on Humphrey or was she stopped by another officer from firing the gun.
In any case, given the fact that she pointed the gun at an officer with an intention to shoot, Daya would suffer the consequences of her action whether or not she pulled the trigger on Humphrey. She could get into a far worse situation if she fired the gun for sure.
Based on recent reports, Daya shall reportedly hit rock bottom in the upcoming Season 5 of “Oranges is the New Black” when it premieres on Netflix in June of next year.
There are speculations saying that Daya will most likely be sent to the Special Housing Unit (SHU) in the aftermath of her gun-pointing offense where she shall reportedly experience the lowest point of her life, reports the Christian Daily.
There are also rumors saying that the reason why Daya would be sent to the SHU is because she actually shot Humphrey and the move was part of her punishment.
It is not clear though if Humphrey would be alive after Daya shot him but it further led to subsequent speculations that her alleged boyfriend, Correctional Officer John Bennett, played by Matt McGorry, might be returning as well on Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black,” points out Movie News Guide.
McGorry teases his character’s return
Fans would recall that it was Bennett who also got Daya pregnant in Season 3 so it would be interesting to see how things would shape up for the two of them in the upcoming season of “Orange is the New Black.” But by just the look of things, the plot seems a good storyline already for the popular TV series.
Bennett is bound to help Daya in her predicament some way, according to rumors, which was fuelled by a recent post by McGorry on his Instagram account where he showed a photo of himself and co-star Laverne Cox, who plays Sophia Burset in the TV series.
While the actor’s post did not indicate that he is referring to Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black,” fans took it to mean that he is indeed coming back to the series to reprise his character.
If it’s any support to the actor’s wishes, his character’s return is actually one of the most awaited comebacks in the show that fans wanted to happen. When Bennett left the show after Season 3, many fans of “Orange is the New Black” were infuriated because they believe that Daya did not deserve what he did to her.
In the event that Bennett would return, that would be a good way for him to seek redemption for the wrong that he has done on Daya and make up for it by being with her side during her lowest point.
Not dying in Season 5
Contrary to rumors going around on the internet these days that Piper Chapman, played by actress Taylor Schilling, will meet her demise in the upcoming Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix, critics believe that the rumors are inaccurate.
The speculations about the impending death of Piper Chapman in the hit series began following the release of the official trailer of “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 which showed the hand of Piper about to be smashed.
Critics believe that it is almost impossible for Schilling’s character in the TV series to die because she is actually portraying in the show Piper Kerman, the author of “Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison,” the main source material for the TV series.
As such, it is Kerman’s story that is being told in the TV series and she cannot share it to the world if she did not come out alive of the Litchfield Penitentiary.
