Charles ‘Chuck’ McGill, played by Michael McKean, is the brother of series main protagonist Jimmy McGill, played by Bob Odenkirk, in the American crime drama TV series “Better Call Saul” on AMC.
The critically-acclaimed TV series is the prequel spin-off of its equally-acclaimed parent show, “Breaking Bad,” which previously aired on AMC as well.
Chuck has never been a good big brother to Jimmy because of his hidden jealousy on his brother since they were little. So instead of becoming his brother’s keeper, he always finds a way to put Jimmy on a hot spot or a bind just to see how much his brother can take in life and also get even with him in some way.
The TV series is all about the transformation of Jimmy McGill from a non-descript small-time lawyer to a high-profile criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, who was seen in “Breaking Bad.”
Apparently, the unhealthy brotherly relationship between Jimmy and Chuck will have a telling impact on the eventual metamorphosis of Jimmy and reports have it that the upcoming Season 3 of “Better Call Saul” shall see Chuck having that huge part in the transformation of his brother into Saul Goodman, reports Movie News Guide.
Betraying his brother
According to reports, Jimmy would admit to his brother that he tampered the Mesa Verde files. He also talked about how he helped Kim Wexler, played by Rhea Seehorn, to comprise the case.
But it seems that Jimmy would also realize that Chuck already knew what happened. What he does not know is that Chuck is set to betray him in Season 3 by using their recorded conversations to implicate him.
That would surely push Jimmy McGill over the edge considering that he has always had the highest regard and respect for his brother.
As early as Season 2 of “Better Call Saul,” there have already been indications that Jimmy might finally break and out comes Saul Goodman but it seems that it is the gist of the TV series and making Saul Goodman come out too early would mean the show is close to its end.
It is likely that just like its parent TV series, “Better Call Saul” shall have five seasons so critics believe that the transformation of Jimmy McGill will not yet happen in Season 3 but most likely towards the latter part of Season 4 or early in Season 5, assuming that the show eventually gets greenlit for a fifth season.
The return of Gus Fring
The biggest secret of Season 3 of “Better Call Saul” on AMC is out and it is no other than drug kingpin cum restaurateur Gus Fring, to be played by Giancarlo Esposito, who also did an excellent job with the character back in the antecedent “Breaking Bad.”
The first letter of the 10 episodes of Season 2 of “Better Call Saul” spelled out FRINGSBACK. When spaced and punctuated properly to make a phrase, it actually reads ‘Fring’s Back.’
Thus, it became clear to fans of the hit show that Gus Fring, the drug kingpin and chicken store owner in the parent series “Breaking Bad,” shall be showing up in Season 3 of “Better Call Saul,” notes the Vine Report.
In a recent interview, Bob Odenkirk said that now that the cat is out of the bag, there are speculations saying that Gus Fring may have a hand with what happened to Mike Ehrmantraut, played by Jonathan Banks, during the Season 2 finale.
He explained that Gus Fring works in mysterious ways and he casts a long shadow because he works indirectly.
Odenkirk said that he is actually worried of disappointing the fans if their hopes were raised that they would see Gus Fring in Season 3 wall-to-wall but does not turn out to be that way.
