Season 3 of the American superhero drama TV series “The Flash” will premiere on The CW on October 4 and every fan of the show has already been talking about the Flashpoint storyline which shall be its highlight following the events that happened during the Season 2 finale.
In addition to saving his mother from being killed by the Reverse-Flash, Barry Allen, played by Grant Gustin, as the Scarlet Speedster, has actually altered the universe when he went back in time and thus resulting to another timeline called the Flashpoint.
In the Flashpoint storyline, Barry Allen also does not have any power as The Flash and has to find a way to recover it in order to correct the altered universe. He needs to draw on other people to help him out since Team Flash never existed in Flashpoint at all.
But there is an interesting sidelight to Flashpoint amid all the foreboding doom that it brought. And it is the love story between Barry Allen and Iris West, played by Candice Patton.
In a recent interview, Candice Patton said that the best part of Flashpoint, at least for her and perhaps the millions of viewers of “The Flash,” is the first meeting between Barry and Iris which would remind everybody of their first meeting in Season 1.
Patton said that there is something magical about it which was recreated in Flashpoint. Even Director Kevin Smith agrees with the actress.
He explained that he saw the first episode of “The Flash” Season 1 and he noticed that there was really something very special about it. The actress said that fans are going to really enjoy that when Season 3 of “The Flash” unfolds, details TV Line.
Life-altering consequences
The actress said that fans would get to see Barry try and woo Iris, which he never did in the original timeline. So it is going to be very sweet, she pointed out.
But beyond those magical and sweet moments between Barry and Iris, his choices have spurred life-altering consequences for his friends and family and all those are going to be very interesting to find out, she explained.
She added that Barry going back in time has changed everything so everyone is a little bit different. But if there is anyone who is close to who they are, it’s no other but Iris.
Only Barry is aware of the changes in the timeline because he came from the original timeline and experienced everything that happened there.
An extended trailer
The CW recently released an extended trailer of “The Flash” Season 3 and it further highlighted the alternate timeline created by Barry Allen, reports Gamespot.
When he decided to make some difficult choices, his powers begin to fade, and that will be the springboard for another winning season for “The Flash.”
Incidentally, critics are now saying that despite Grant Gustin’s acclaim as Barry Allen and The Flash in the TV series, he has not been chosen by Warner Bros to reprise the role in the DC Expanded Universe or DCEU. The right belongs to Ezra Miller, who was already been cast for the role as early as last year and even had a brief cameo in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” when it was shown in March this year.
The past two seasons of “The Flash” have always been about Barry Allen, as the Scarlet Speedster, going up against other metahumans with super speed like him, or worse, actually faster than him.
It looks like Season 3 would have more of the same as reports have it that the season’s big bad shall be another speed demon called The Rival, whose human alter ego is Dr. Edward Clariss.
The character is actually based on DC Comics so some of the viewers of “The Flash” know who The Rival is.
In the show, the character is to be played by Todd Lasance from “Spartacus: War of the Damned” and The Rival will be appearing right on the premiere episode of Season 3 of “The Flash.”
