‘Reign’ Season 4 to Feature How Two Suitors Ended Up in Marrying Queen Mary of Scots One After the Other

The exact airing date of Season 4 of the American historical drama TV series “Reign” has yet to be announced by The CW network but the rumors have been fairly consistent in saying that Queen Mary of Scots, played by Adelaide Kane, shall do everything in her power to make her country great again.

She also needs someone to help her out and with the death of her husband King Francis, played by Tony Regbo, in Season 3, a new partner to map out the plans and do the dirty work for her.

Apparently, Queen Mary shall have two suitors in the upcoming fourth season of “Reign” and she will end up marrying both of them. But lest it is mistaken for polygamy, she would marry both men but one after the other and not simultaneously.

Queen Mary will have two new suitors in Lord Darnley, Henry Stuart, to be played by Will Kemp, and James Hepburn, the Earl of Bothwell, to be played by Adam Croasdell. There are even reports saying that the fourth season would highlight the love triangle involving Mary, Lord Darnley, and Bothwell.

Lord Darnley has a legitimate claim to the English throne by blood so he will wed Queen Mary in order to bring down Queen Elizabeth of England, played by Rachel Skarsten, and in the process conquer two nations at the same time. Based on history, Lord Darnley is actually the second husband of Queen Mary but died after only one year of their marriage, notes the Christian Today.

Bothwell is said to be deeply loyal to Queen Mary and wants her affection all to himself. He is to become the third husband of the Queen of Scots and shall be suspected of killing Lord Darnley to be able to take Mary away from him.

In real life story, Bothwell is known to have been involved in the killing of one of the close relatives of the queen. There is no report yet as to whether or not this is included in the story arc of the upcoming season of “Reign,” notes Jobs & Hire.

There are speculations saying that the conflict between Lord Darnley and Bothwell will surely ensue, and is likely to be featured in Season 4 of “Reign.”

Fulfilling her first husband’s wishes

It has been said that Season 4 of “Reign” shall actually see Queen Mary fulfilling one of King Francis’ last wishes, which is to secure the regency.

She will actually be forging new alliances during the fourth season to defend her country from Queen Elizabeth.

Both actors Croasdell and Kemp are reportedly contracted to appear only in four episodes of “Reign” Season 4 but it remains to be seen if that is to be the case for Croasdell since he stayed longer in real life as a husband of Queen Mary.

There are even reports saying that the introduction of the second and third husbands of Queen Mary would happen in the latter episodes of Season 4, which is again unlikely since the marriages of the Queen of Scots are integral to her attempts to make Scotland great again.

The fewest number of episodes

Another thing that seems to have been confirmed at this point is that the fourth season of “Reign” shall have the fewest episodes in the history of the TV series and there are speculations saying that Season 4 could be the last for the show.

The first two seasons of “Reign” had 22 episodes apiece while its Season 3 had 18 episodes. Its upcoming fourth season shall reportedly have only 16 episodes.

Reign Season 4

From a previous fall premiere, The CW has also decided to push back its air date and regardless of how anyone looks at it, the show’s days are numbered especially if it fails to bring in the needed ratings to merit another season renewal.

However, the producers are optimistic that Season 4 of “Reign” shall deliver the ratings and it is likely that they would be given one more season to finish everything with a flourish.

In order to perk up the ratings of “Reign,” the show shall be focusing more on Queen Mary of Scot who seemed to have sorted out what is needed to be taken care of.
