Season 14 premiere of NCIS introduced two new agents. Former undercover agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Alex Guinn (Jennifer Esposito). The two new members are going to be a part of Gibbs’ (Mark Harmon) team in the current season.
Each new agent has a history that they bring to the table along with their share of skills and personality. As reported by International Business Times, Nick Torres had spent the significant chunk of his career as a deep undercover agent. He will struggle as a team player initially.
Nick Torres was a lone wolf on the field. Given the nature of his work, there is some amount of trauma and post-traumatic stress that he needs to deal with. These will occasionally manifest while he tries to assimilate into the new team.
Wilmer Valderrama talks about his character in NCIS Season 14. He says that Torres has concerns about working in a team. Nick Torres has had 15 different names and 22 home addresses in the past. He feels that he isn’t cut out to be a team player and might end up being a liability instead of an asset.
Viewers are aware of Gibbs bending the rules of the NCIS to get his way with the bad guys. However, nothing will prepare them for the way Torres disregards rules. NCIS Season 14 will show him break the rules and use questionable methods to get hold of the criminals.
Gibbs will have a challenge at hand. He will work hard to try and mold Nick Torres and get him to become a team player. Gibbs and Nick Torres share a unique relationship. Gibbs sees a younger version of himself in Torres. He understands his struggles and dilemma.
Gibbs is aware that the job is what keeps him from falling apart and gets him going. He understands that the same is with Nick. Gibbs will try and work with Nick Torres to help him find a safe place in the team.
The interaction between the two in the premiere episode draws home the point that they are similar. There is an overt parallelism established between Torres and Gibbs, with both of them on a quest for vengeance.
The premiere episode of NCIS Season 14 shows that Nick Torres’s recommendation for Gibbs’ team comes from Alex Quinn (Jennifer Esposito). NCIS special agent Alex Quinn visits Gibbs after he turns down the eighth agent she had recommended for the open agent position.
When Quinn tries to know what exactly was it that Gibbs is looking for in an agent, she is asked to join the team. Quinn realizes on the job that Nick Torres is the perfect fit.
Nick was her student at the Law Enforcement Training Center. However, their relationship goes beyond that of a regular student and teacher. Quinn had trained and assigned Torres as an undercover agent, and they have a history, which will eventually resurface now that they are colleagues.
TV Guide reports that Torres and Quinn aren’t aware of their history. Valderrama teased that Torres is aware of having a sister and this was one of the primary reason for him to move to Washington, DC. Could it be that Quinn is Torres’ long lost sister?
Moving to the plot of the premiere episode of NCIS Season 14. Titled ‘Rogue,’ the episode starts with the team coming in to investigate a deadly car accident in Washington, DC. The accident connects to the disappearance of a Special Agent Nicholas Torres, an undercover agent who disappeared during an assignment in Argentina.
