Doctor Who Season 10 is set to premiere in April 2017. The production is underway currently. The tenth season was slightly delayed due to Steven Moffat’s commitments with Sherlock.
There is no official announcement on the release date for Doctor Who Season 10. Peter Capaldi, who plays the role of the Twelfth Doctor, let slip that the series is going to release in April next year.
Steven Moffat has had a busy year since he is simultaneously working on Sherlock Season 4. However, Moffat has always juggled his two shows effortlessly, and it was the same this time around as well. Doctor Who released quite a few specials this year and will be back with the Christmas special in December.
There’s speculation that Peter Capaldi isn’t going to continue as Doctor Who in Season 10. Steven Moffat’s assurance on the issue hasn’t helped in dousing the flames in this matter. Australian Network News reported that Moffat has no plans of writing off Peter Capaldi as the current Time Lord.
Moffat considers Capaldi perfect for the role, and there is going to be more season of Doctor Who with the actor at the helm. However, Whovians seem to have a fan theory on the matter. The fan theory takes into note the revival of Doctor Who in 2005. Four actors assumed the role of Time Lord and Peter Capaldi became the most famous.
Fans believe that each actor represented the five stages of grief. Christopher Eccleston, the actor who played the role of the ninth Time Lord, represented Denial. David Tennant, the tenth Doctor, represented Anger. Matt Smith, the eleventh Doctor, was Bargaining. Finally, Peter Capaldi represented Depression as the twelfth Doctor Who.
According to this fan theory, the thirteenth Doctor is going to represent Acceptance. The actor, portraying Acceptance, has to be entirely different from the image that Peter Capaldi has as the Time Lord. The popular fan theory calls for a new actor and hence the rumor surrounding the replacement.
There is a chance of Doctor Who returning to the classic character of the Time Lord. The time when Time War was a thing of the past. This change in dimension would provide an interesting story arc to the series, and there’s a chance that fans would be accepting of it.
Doctor Who Season 10 is going to be the last season for showrunner Steven Moffat. Season 11 will see Chris Chibnall taking charge. Fans feel that Peter Capaldi might leave the show following Steven Moffat’s departure in the same way David Tennant left the show following the footsteps of then showrunner, Russell T. Davies.
Moffat has made it clear that he will not be writing off Peter Capaldi’s character of the Twelfth Doctor Who. He said that he might be leaving Doctor Who after Season 10, but Peter Capaldi is in it for the long run. Peter Capaldi loves his role, and there’s no reason for him to stop doing so.
Russell T. Davies had ended his time with Doctor Who in a grand manner, but Steven Moffat doesn’t seem to have planned anything similar for the Season 10 finale of Doctor Who. Comic Book reported that Steven Moffat doesn’t place a lot of importance on the departure of a showrunner.
Moffat joked that the audience doesn’t know of his existence and hence there is no need to wave them a goodbye while he departs. Since the viewers don’t know about him, they would be rather confused when he stops to wave at them, and it is going to be embarrassing. All he wants is to deliver a great Doctor Who Season 10 as a gift to the fans who have been supportive.
