‘Avatar 2’ Release Date Not as Important as the Cadence of the Release Pattern of All the Four Sequels, Says James Cameron!

It has already been reported that “Avatar 2” shall hit theaters in December 2018, which was a one-year push-back from its original release date of December 2017.

The reports back then were saying that the reason why the release date of the movie was pushed back is because critically-acclaimed director James Cameron has come to an agreement with Disney Pictures that no “Avatar” sequel would go up against any of the “Star Wars” sequels.

“Avatar” is the highest-grossing movie of all time with a total of $2.7 billion take at the box office when it was shown in 2009. Disney posed a good run at the title last year when its “Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens” managed to earn close to $2 billion in the box office and settled to become the third highest-grossing movie of all time.

Still untouched at second spot is “Titanic,” which was also helmed by James Cameron, with its $2.2 billion gross at the box office when it was released in 1997.

As it is, the push-back in the release date of “Avatar 2” has given James Cameron and the production team sufficient time to work and finish all the three other sequels, namely “Avatar 3,” “Avatar 4,” and “Avatar 5.”

After “Avatar 2” hits theaters in December 2018, “Avatar 3” will make it to cinemas in December 2020, “Avatar 4” in December 2022, and “Avatar 5” in December 2023.

The director said that he and the whole production team is aiming to keep the release dates of the four sequels intact but if something comes up along the way, they are willing to make again the necessary adjustments, including pushing it back further.

He said that the important thing for him is not when “Avatar 2” comes out but the cadence of the release pattern of all the four sequels, reports the Christian Times.

Cameron also explained that he wants the sequels to be released as close together as possible. He added that if it is going to be an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, he wants to make sure that they are able to fulfill the promise.

A family saga

In another interview, James Cameron said that “Avatar 2” shall likely be a family saga that will focus on the struggles of humans.

He added that the storyline of “Avatar 2” shall focus on Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, notes Game & Guide.

Meanwhile, actor Stephen Lang recently joined the panel of the horror film “Don’t Breathe” at the Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago and he was both asked of his role in the upcoming movie that hit theaters late in August and in the sequel to the most successful film of all time, “Avatar.”

Lang played the role of the villainous Col. Miles Quaritch in “Avatar” who was killed after taking several huge Na’vi arrows through his chest.

It was critically-acclaimed director, writer, and producer James Cameron who previously confirmed that Stephen Lang will be back in “Avatar 2” to reprise his role as Col. Quaritch.

When asked back then if how Cameron is going to do it since Quaritch is very much dead during the first movie, the director said that nobody dies in fiction.

He did not say exactly how it is going to happen but reports have it, which was also affirmed by Stephen Lang, that Col. Miles Quaritch is expected to be resurrected in unexpected places not only in “Avatar 2” but also in the three subsequent sequels up to “Avatar 5.”

In a recent interview, Cameron was quoted as saying that Col. Miles Quaritch will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of the four-film saga.
