Now that we’ve seen confirmation that “Daredevil” is coming back, the main question on most fans’ minds is when exactly they’re going to get the new episodes. There have been various rumors about this leading up to the official announcement of the season, and nobody seems to know for sure. But many sources seem to indicate that 2018 is the most likely year for now.
The show has apparently been pushed to the background in the schedule of Netflix to some extent, as the studio is currently focused on other projects. More specifically, their main priority right now seems to be “Defenders”, which Matt Murdock will also play in. After that, the actor apparently has other projects on his plate as well, so we don’t expect to see him with a lot of free time on his hands soon.
In any case, Netflix themselves likely won’t be able to begin filming by 2017, so 2018 does look like a reasonable time to expect the next season of the show. This could change with the release of the next products of the studio, as their ratings could drive the producers to work in a different direction.
We also don’t expect to get any serious hints about what’s coming up in season 3 of “Daredevil” until at least the middle of 2017, with that schedule in mind. The show has quite the following, and many people are actively looking for information about its new episodes, so Netflix will likely want to keep things at a low profile.
This means that the studio will probably control their information releases very carefully, and will prepare a campaign to get their fans hyped up at the right time. It doesn’t make sense to get people excited too early, as that would mean wasting some marketing effort without a good return.
On the other hand, the second half of 2017 should be quite interesting for fans of “Daredevil”, as we not only expect Netflix themselves to start addressing their plans for the show, but there will probably be various rumors on the horizon as well.
With such a long timeframe for the production of the next season, can fans expect any major changes, or will the producers try to retain the same style? When a show is that young, it’s hard to tell, and the fact that “Daredevil” has only been around for two seasons means that the producers will likely want to play it safe and focus on things they know work well.
The third season of the show could offer a deeper exploration of some of the current main characters, and it might also introduce some new elements to the mix, but we don’t expect any significant developments that will change the overall plot of the show.
If the ratings for season 3 don’t satisfy the producers, maybe then they will start eyeing some more drastic changes, but it doesn’t really make much sense to touch a configuration that’s not broken at the moment. Fans of the show seem mostly happy with the way it’s running as well.
Some fans have been expressing desires for the producers to explore the religious subthemes of the show in more detail, and there are some rumors that this might actually happen in the new season. In the very least, we’ve seen a confirmation that the showrunners don’t plan to take away that aspect of the story.
