The fifth and final season of the American teen drama series “Switched at Birth” shall be officially airing on Freeform on January 24, 2017.
There were speculations after the Season 4 cliffhanger about the reason why Daphne Vasquez, played by Katie Leclerc, and Bay Kennish, played by Vanessa Marano, were called upon while in China and asked to return home to Kansas.
First, there were reports saying that they needed to come home because John Kennish, played by D.W. Moffett, is sick and is about to die.
Subsequently, there were reports saying that John and Kathryn Kennish, played by Lea Thompson, are already divorcing which is the reason why the two girls needed to come home to possibly save the marriage of the couple.
The title of the premiere episode of Season 5 is “The Call,” which only reinforced speculations of the possible decision of John and Kathryn to sever their marital ties for good.
So, it comes as a big surprise that the latest report about the reason why Daphne and Vanessa are coming home is because their mother, Regina Vasquez, played by Constance Marie, is having a new romantic relationship. She shall be introducing to them her young and hot new boyfriend named Luca, to be played by Michael Galante.
The two will obviously be shocked to learn about the relationship since Luca seems to be closer to their age and is way younger than Regina, notes Movie News Guide.
The relationship would not suit well with both Daphne and Bay that it might possibly cause another tension in the family.
According to reports, the relationship of Regina and Luca shall also be one of the main focuses of “Switched at Birth” Season 5 when it returns to Freeform early next year.
Tying the knot
The Season 5 trailer of “Switched at Birth” also featured Toby Kennish, played by Lucas Grabeel, and Lily, played by Rachel Shenton, finally deciding to tie the knot and seal their family with a marriage, reports the Christian Times.
The two already have a baby together so they have decided to make their union and relationship official by formalizing it through a wedding ceremony.
Amid the rumors of divorce between John and Kathryn, what seems clear is that the 10th and final episode of “Switched at Birth” entitled “Long Live Love” will mean that the pair will eventually have their happy ending.
In a recent interview, D.W. Moffett has pointed out that despite the initial storyline of Season 5 of “Switched at Birth,” referring to the divorce proceedings between his character John and Kathryn, it seems that the couple shall be able to patch things up and give their relationship a go.
With the episode title of the Season 5 finale, which is also the last for the show, it is clear that John is not going to die in the TV series.
In fact, Moffett said that his character will become stronger as the plot of Season 5 progresses, which means that he could be referring to his character’s physical condition.
A happy ending for everyone
Critics also believe that the episode title of the series finale is a good sign that no one is getting divorced nor die in “Switched at Birth.”
Executive producer Lizzy Weiss has been quoted as saying that the fifth and final season of the TV series on Freeform shall have a satisfying conclusion and would give the viewers a feel-good feeling at the end.
Incidentally, episode 2 of Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” is entitled “This Has To Do With Me,” which shall be directed by D.W. Moffett.
The TV series is set to air on Freeform on January 24, 2017 and the network made a formal announcement about it just recently.
Apart from tying all loose ends, Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” on Freeform shall feature several returning stories from the previous seasons, reveals actress Vanessa Marano.
