The rumors about “Frozen 2” haven’t really stopped ever since the first film came out, and this is a pretty typical situation with major releases in the film industry. And while most of the things people were saying have been positive so far, the film has been surrounded by some oddly negative rumors recently.
Among them are claims that some major cast members have resigned, and their corresponding characters will be written off in the sequel. It’s possible that “Frozen 2” could be a completely different story, only borrowing its general setting from the first film, if that turns out to be true.
But on the other hand, it wouldn’t really be in Disney’s style to do this, as they should expect some pretty harsh negative effects from something like that. The studio tends to take a very cautious, calculated approach to their sequels in general, and whenever they decide to continue a film, it’s usually a decision they don’t take lightly.
With that in mind, it would be strange to see them taking any serious risks with “Frozen 2”, especially considering how iconic the film is in their overall portfolio. A “Frozen” without Elsa, Anna and Olaf might as well not even have that name anymore, so hopefully those rumors won’t turn out to be true.
The film is expected to be ready by 2018, at least according to some recent reports, but it’s not an exact release date by any means. Apparently, Disney wanted to focus more on some other films they have in production at the moment, which is why they have pushed “Frozen 2” to the background.
With all the hype that preceded the official announcement of the sequel, that would be a bit strange, but it’s possible that the studio might be considering other projects as more important right now. It’s hard to tell, especially knowing how secretive Disney can be about their work, and only time will tell.
Other bits of news on the horizon claim that the rumors about Elsa, Anna and Olaf are actually false, and that all three actors behind the respective characters have already started working on the sequel. That, on the other hand, clashes with the rumors of a delayed release, so it’s really hard to tell what’s going on behind the scenes at Disney right now.
It’s possible, though not very likely, that the writing of the film is already done, in which case Disney could set up a recording session for the lines of the characters, and do the animation at a later stage. That’s one of the great benefits of animation as opposed to live filming – the work is much more modular and can be split into stages more effectively.
Plus, Disney themselves are no strangers to unusual working patterns in their animated films, so we wouldn’t put anything past them when it comes to cutting time (and costs). However, if those rumors are actually true, then following the schedules of all three actors could be a dead giveaway for the status of the film.
If Idina Menzel or someone else from the trio takes up a more serious project that fills up their time for the next year or two, it would probably be safe to assume that her work on “Frozen 2” is indeed done. Or, alternatively, that she has no relation to that film anymore. But sooner or later, Disney are going to have to release a teaser for the film, at which point it will be obvious if the three original characters are still in it.
