Sony have been in the news in a bit of a negative light lately, as the studio has decided to raise the price of their “PlayStation Plus” service by $10. From this month, it will now cost $59.99 for an annual subscription, in a move which made many fans angry and disappointed. There have been ongoing discussions about the situation, but it doesn’t look like Sony have any plans to relent.
There is still some time for gamers to get their subscription at the lower price of $49.99, so those who see a value in it should definitely give it a try. Plus, some clever fans have also pointed out that gift cards which are priced at the current rate will have to remain valid by law, so those who are feeling more entrepreneurial could probably stockpile some subscription cards.
What’s in store for gamers who have the service for this month anyway? It looks like “Journey” is one of the new “PlayStation Plus” titles, giving many gamers an opportunity to check out the iconic title and see why it’s talked about so much.
A lot has been said about “Journey” since it came out, and the game has been universally praised for many of its aspects, so we expect that it will enjoy a lot of attention thanks to this promotion as well.
Other than that, there is a nice selection of games featuring “Lords of the Fallen”, “Badland”, as well as “Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands”. Most of the titles on the list are well-known, and gamers should get a chance to experience some of them if they’ve missed that opportunity before.
Last but not least, we should also point out that “PlayStation Plus” subscribers who have a Vita will also get access to “Amnesia: Memories”. All in all, there’s a pretty nice selection of games in there, and Sony have been hard at work picking out exciting titles for their fans to enjoy.
The service has also been great at allowing some studios to get more exposure for their projects as well, as it often includes games that managed to slip by under the radar for most gamers. And while the selection seemed a bit arbitrary in the beginning, Sony have improved a lot, and recently it’s been obvious that they are putting a lot of work into ensuring that there is always a fresh, exciting selection of titles available.
For all that’s been said about it, “PlayStation Plus” has been running pretty well, and the service has been growing in numbers since it started. It’s currently enjoying more than twenty million users, with the numbers climbing at a regular rate.
It’s questionable if that trend will continue now that the price hike is on the horizon, but as long as Sony maintain a good value in it, we trust that they will be able to retain active interest in “PlayStation Plus”. Many people enjoy getting so many games for free, and that’s not something that they will give up that easily, even if it means having to pay a little more per month.
Some have been critical of the fact that Sony have chosen to raise their prices without improving the quality of “PlayStation Plus” in any measurable way at the same time though, so it might be a smart move for the company to release some special promotions for subscribers right now. Many people are actively discussing the situation, and some encouraging words from Sony definitely wouldn’t be bad.
