Andrew Garfield is setting a date with history for his upcoming movie “Hacksaw Ridge,” due to hit theaters in the US on November 4 and in different parts of the world a few days later.
The movie is actually the first film of Mel Gibson as a director in a decade. In fact, the “Braveheart” actor last directed a movie in 2006 for the film “Apocalypto.”
The movie is a World War II battlefield epic of heroism under fire based on the true story of Desmond Doss, played by Andrew Garfield, a conscientious objector who refused to kill the enemy or fire a weapon because of his religious beliefs.
Doss served as a medic when he first volunteered in the army. During the Battle of Okinawa, Doss stayed behind when his battalion retreated, venturing repeatedly into the kill zone by bringing 75 injured men to safety, details Variety.
Director Mel Gibson describes Desmond Doss as one of the greatest war heroes of all time.
IM Global founder and CEO Stuart Ford said that “Hacksaw Ridge” is also about maintaining one’s values while trying to avoid conflict with other cultures and other values. The film definitely has a very powerful humanitarian message that hopefully will make it an important film as well as an entertaining one, Ford added.
The movie hit Venice Lido in Italy on Sunday and it generated favorable reviews and critical acclaim.
IM Global already closed a slew of sales on “Hacksaw Ridge” at last year’s European Film Market, where it proved to be one of the most distinctive of high-profile titles.
Enjoying the Italian ambiance
A day before “Hacksaw Ridge” hits the Venice Lido, Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaugh were spotted strolling along a dock in Venice, Italy.
Apparently, the two came to the Italian city to attend the 2016 Venice Film Festival. The two actors were seen joining around as they helped each other on and off a boat as they took a ride around the seas, details Just Jared.
Both actors are part of the movie “Hacksaw Ridge” and seemed to be at ease with the chances of the movie winning a couple of citations and recognitions in the festival.
Mel Gibson was not at the film festival but it is likely that he was very elated that Andrew and Vince more than represented the movie in Venice Lido.
Happy together on Andrew’s birthday
Incidentally, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were spotted strolling in London on August 21. Interestingly, the actor’s 33rd birthday was on August 20 or the day before.
As Emma Stone flew from California in the US all the way to London to be with Andrew Garfield on his birthday or in this case, after his birthday, it seems obvious that the two are still a couple, despite rumors and reports that they have already broken up as of October last year.
While the pair looked happy together while walking on a London street, there was no PDA at all. Both their hands were in their respective pockets.
Some critics are saying that the two happened to have just met up and there is no reconciliation that happened because the couple was not holding hands.
However, if they were former lovers, it seems ironic and absurd even, that they celebrate together the other one’s birthday because it does not just happen in a relationship.
The London sighting follows reports early in June that the pair also had that luxurious yacht vacation in the Mediterranean along with Andrew’s brother and Emma’s friends.
Before dating Andrew Garfield in 2011, Emma Stone reportedly dated Teddy Geiger, whom she dated from 2007 to 2009.
The relationship began when they starred together in the movie “The Rocker” and Teddy managed to sweep her off her feet with his song-writing and singing skills.
Subsequently, Emma dated Kieran Culkin from 2010 to 2011. Kieran, as everyone knows, is the younger brother of Macaulay Culkin. Their relationship also started when they did a movie together entitled “Paper Man.” They dated for one-year straight.
