Recent developments in the story of “Reign” have made some fans of the show upset, and many are currently convinced that it could be cancelled after the upcoming fourth season. In fact, some fans are questioning the point in a fourth season at all, as it looks like the recent changes that were introduced to the plot could be a bit too much for the long run. Still, production of the fourth season is underway, and it’s expected to take a little longer to come out, while at the same time it will also apparently have fewer episodes than normal.
Whenever a show kills off some of its major characters in a sudden move, this either means it’s close to an end, or that the producers are considering a significant revision of its style. In the case of “Reign”, there’s not realistically that much the producers could do right now to give the show a major “facelift”, and the more likely solution would be to bring it to an end.
We still have no official word from the showrunners, or from the network itself, but many fans are actually taking this as a bad sign more than anything else. Let’s hope that they can still find a way to keep the plot moving forward despite the recent negative changes, although some fans are also questioning the point in continuing the show if that were to happen.
For what it’s worth, it’s very likely that the upcoming season of “Reign” will be more focused on tying up loose ends and ensuring that there are no plot holes left over from the events of the last season. There are definitely some things that fans would like to see resolved if the show is about to be shut down completely, especially the plot lines surrounding Mary.
Mary was actually one of the main reasons for many fans to be disappointed by the events of season 3, but it looks like the writers of the show just haven’t planned any positive finale for her. In fact, it’s possible that they will follow historic events as closely as possible, meaning that the show could culminate in her death. Some fans would definitely be upset if things were left on that note, but the whole experience could also be seen as an interesting glimpse into history through the slight perspective of fiction.
The show still managed to do plenty of things right, so it’s not like it’s being shut down on a negative note, although that would of course depend on the quality of season 4 as well. The fact that the producers are taking extra time with this season makes it very likely that they are putting even more effort into it, and are going to deliver something spectacular this time. Especially combined with the shorter length of the season, this should give them plenty of time to focus on every little detail of the story.
There have been some minor rumors of a possible spin-off, though most fans are skeptical of that idea as the various characters left in the show don’t seem to predispose to that. Of course, a spin-off could also be about other things, such as the general setting of the production or how the story has continued some time afterwards, so there are some possibilities in that regard. But for now, fans should focus on the upcoming fourth season of “Reign”.
