When “Man of Steel” was released to worldwide theaters in June 2013, most fans of Superman thought it to be a darker reboot of the Superman film franchise.
The movie was actually the second reboot of the franchise, third if the lone stint of Brandon Routh is counted in the 2006 film, “Superman Returns.”
In the reboot that featured British actor Henry Cavill, Clark Kent was in the middle of a personal quagmire, looking all over the world and inside his soul to determine his self-worth. “Man of Steel” was more like a journey of self-discovery, when Clark Kent finally come to the conclusion that he is Superman and he means a lot to the world.
“Man of Steel” happens to be the first movie of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which Warner Bros, pitted against the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The second film of DCEU came in March this year, or almost three years later, with the release of “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which has certainly given Warner Bros and DC Comics sufficient steam to finally rev up its head-to-head match with Disney’s MCU.
Unfortunately, the second film in the DCEU, “Suicide Squad,” got a drubbing at the box office when it came out early this month, contrary to the hype and expectations of Warner Bros.
Thus, the production company dejectedly went back into the development of “Man of Steel 2,” after realizing that Superman is still the bread-and-butter of the franchise.
According to reports, Warner Bros has learned its lesson already about putting more drama on DCEU films when fans really wanted a good serving of their superheroes the way they know it. Thus, it has been said that “Man of Steel 2” would already feature a heroic, non-conflicted, and coherent version of Superman, regardless whether it is to be helmed by Zack Snyder or not, details What Culture.
The world needs an inspirational Superman
After “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” showed the fantastical elements of the DCEU, DC fans need an inspirational Superman, the superhero they know who is able to leap tall buildings on a single bounce, runs faster than a bullet train, and flies like a plane or bird.
Fans, especially the young ones, are hoping to see a Superman in “Man of Steel 2” who would even go out of his way to save the proverbial cat from a tree.
And with the way things are going for the pre-production of the sequel to the “Man of Steel,” it looks like it is greatly heading that way.
Previously, it was reported that “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is the follow-up or sort of sequel to “Man of Steel” when Warner Bros opted to build an interconnected cinematic universe instead of building a new Superman franchise.
With the two-part “Justice League” currently filming and other DC superhero films in various stages of development, it seemed as if the Man of Steel himself would be relegated to a supporting character in various other DC films, the way Iron Man is doing in most Marvel films.
But the production company appears to have come to a realization of the importance of having another Superman stand-alone film and thus put “Man of Steel 2” in active development, reports Collider.
Possible release date
Warner Bros has already released the two films of the DCEU this year and it is scheduled to release two each in 2017 and in 2018.
“Wonder Woman” is set to be released in cinemas on June 2, 2017 while the first of the two-part “Justice League” film shall hit theaters on November 17 next year.
In 2018, the movie about “The Flash” shall be debuting on March 16 while “Aquaman” will be hitting theaters on July 27.

Suicide Squad took a drubbing at the box office?! Maybe on Earth 2, but not here. It’s earned around 627 million so far and has yet to open in Japan. That’s outstanding considering it’s still showing “legs” in the theaters, was denied a release in China, which cost them at least 85-100 million and Suicide Squad 2 is already in the works…..
