Japanese game developer Capcom has been uncharacteristically quiet for the details including possible plotline of its upcoming dramatic horror action-adventure third-person shooter video game “Resident Evil 7” except the fact that the game shall officially hit the PC, the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation VR, and the Xbox One on January 24, 2017.
Capcom has made the official announcement about the release date of “Resident Evil 7” during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 held in Los Angeles, California in June.
Latest reports have it that the game got an M rating as posted on the ESRB website. M stands for mature, which may have something to do with the reported pretty intense-sounding graphic violence in “Resident Evil 7,” details Gamespot.
The same reports are also saying that the game shall contain a heavy amount of combat where players will use weapons like pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives, and chainsaws against mutated creatures.
It is actually a big change in the type of player weaponry compared to the ax that was included in the “Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour” demo.
The violence of the game will be pretty gory as it shall include dismemberment by chainsaw and shovel. There is also a scene showing a shovel getting impaled through a character’s face.
In addition, there will be areas that include mangled corpses with guts hanging out, exposed to the whole world. In addition, there will be plenty of cuss words in the game so those who do not want their ears to be debased, they should be ready with their earplugs.
Cutting back on character cameos
There are also reports stating the Capcom has cut back on character cameos in “Resident Evil 7” after Matt Mercer, the voice actor for Leon Kennedy, revealed that he has not been asked to reprise his voice acting role in “Resident Evil 7,” reports Gamerant.
Mercer said that he has yet to be asked to return for the highly-anticipated sequel of the video game. He assumed that Capcom may be scaling back the use of usual characters in the video game franchise.
He voiced Leon Kennedy in “Resident Evil 6” and has been wondering why the character would no longer be part of “Resident Evil 7.”
He explained that Capcom may have decided against throwing in all the classic cameos in the latest installment of the video game. Mercer, however, believes that Capcom has a good reason for that and he thinks that the company wanted “Resident Evil 7” to act very much as its own beast.
Still, he is hopeful that he will get a phone call from Capcom soon. He said that he feels a strong appreciation for the character overall. He added that being able to step into those shoes of Leon Kennedy, even just his voice, is already a huge honor for him.
Mercer remarked that any chance that he is given to jump into the shoes of Leon Kennedy again in the video game franchise, he would definitely leap at it.
Fell short of gamer expectations?
Meanwhile, contrary to latest rumors saying that “Resident Evil 7” has fallen short of gamer expectations and is reportedly under thorough scrutiny as a complete waste of time, Japanese game developer Capcom has come out to debunk negative notions on its game.
The game developer said that “Resident Evil 7” shall provide a dramatic new shift for the series to first person view in a photorealistic style powered by Capcom’s new RE game engine.
It also added that the game shall deliver an unprecedented level of immersion that brings the thrilling horror up close and personal.
While most of the negative feedbacks on the game had something to do apparently with its supposed inability to deliver the outstanding features promised by Capcom especially when played through virtual reality (VR), the developer said that those are just mere hearsays because they have not released yet a version of the game playable on the PlayStation VR.
There are even rumors saying that the game might face an untimely demise because it will fall below gamer expectations when it comes out in January next year.
