The American true crime anthology TV series “American Crime Story” on FX just had a smashing debut in February this year especially when it focused on the crime of former football player-turned actor-turned criminal O.J. Simpson.
Just by the title of the TV series alone, nearly every American TV viewer knows that Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy, the showrunners of the popular “American Horror Story” horror anthology TV series and “Scream Queens,” are also involved in the show.
Indeed, the two are and they are joined by other executive producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. The show, however, has been developed for TV by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski.
The first season of “American Crime Story,” composed of 10 episodes, had its run from February 2 to April 5 this year and had the subtitle: “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” which presented the murder trial of O.J. Simpson based on the book of Jeffrey Toobin entitled “The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson.”
All about Hurricane Katrina
The second season of “American Crime Story” shall focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and in fact, the subtitle of the crime anthology TV series shall be “Hurricane Katrina” when it premieres on FX early next year.
The second season of the show shall be based on the book of Douglas Brinkley entitled “The Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast” as the show’s primary source material.
In an interview during the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, executive producer Brad Simpson said that he will not be going to make any big news in terms of who shall be returning on Season 2 of the show, reports Variety.
But the showrunner did hint that a writer’s room for the show is now in session and that the episodes are just starting to roll in.
He explained that the writers are about to get the scripts in so he does not know at this point who the main characters are going to be. But many believe that most of the players for “American Crime Story” Season 2 shall come from the Ryan Murphy camp, who is also regarded as a mega-producer who is known to bring back his actors in entirely new roles in all of his anthology series on television.
As a matter of fact, Emmy Award-nominated actress Sarah Poulson, who is also a regular in “American Horror Story,” is rumored to return for Season 2 of “American Crime Story,” although Ryan has yet to make the confirmation or denial about it.
Social statement on America
While the first season would be entirely different from the upcoming second season, Simpson says that there will be one similarity in the two seasons and that it will be making a social statement in the United States.
He explained that the Hurrican Katrina season shall be tonally and thematically very different from the O.J. Simpson season of “American Crime Story,” promising that the show will change based on the crime that the TV series is going to explore.
Talking more about the similarity about the seasons, Simpson said that it will be about the intensity of what was like to be on the ground in that pressure cooker. The bigger crime was that it was predictable. The show turns a lens back on America and shows some uncomfortable truths about crimes.
In an interview, Ryan Murphy also talked about the focus of Season 2 of “American Crime Story,” which will be on the crimes that occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina which greatly devastated New Orleans.
