Huawei Mate 9 Likely Coming at IFA 2016 with a Dual-Camera Configuration!

For a company that was in a somewhat unfavorable position in the smartphone market initially, Huawei managed to make quite the name for themselves, and the company currently enjoys a great reputation and a lot of attention focused on their products. Their newest phone, the Mate 9, has been talked about a lot in the press lately, and we’re hoping to finally see it officially released at this year’s IFA. There are various details about the design of the Mate 9 which make it an attractive option, and the dual-camera setup on the back is one of the points that have been talked about the most.

Looking at the current pictures of the device, it’s obvious that Huawei have decided to go with a stylish design and want to once again put a strong emphasis on the visual aspect of the phone. We’ve recently seen two new images of the phone, showing its all-metal body in more detail, and so far responses from fans have been mostly positive. People seem to agree with the general direction that Huawei is taking the line in, and as long as the performance of the Mate 9 matches its appearance, that’s all that matters for most people.

Right now, most discussions about the phone are focused on the two cameras that can be seen in the back. It’s not yet clear how Huawei are going to utilize the setup, as we’ve already seen some interesting ideas in the tech world with regards to dual-camera devices. It’s possible that it could record video in 3D, or the extra camera could be used for special additional processing, according to experts.

Some also suspect that the phone could have one camera dedicated for taking pictures, and an additional high-speed shooter for videos. This would address a common complaint that people have had about smartphone cameras in general, that they tend to take good pictures or good videos, but rarely both.

We still don’t know what kind of hardware will be powering the new Huawei Mate 9, but there are some reports pointing towards 4 GB of RAM, a fast processor, and a nearly 6-inch display. Somewhat surprisingly to some, the rumors also claim that the two rear cameras are identical in their sensors, both being 12 megapixels. According to some, this lends even more credibility to the theory of a 3D shooter, but we can’t say for sure.

On the software side, we expect the phone to ship with Android 7.0, but this is also unconfirmed. Most rumors about its specifications so far seem to be coming from benchmarking leaks, so while it’s possible that they are true, they should also be taken with a grain of salt. It’s not rare for smartphones to get leaked ahead of time thanks to benchmarking services, but sometimes these rumors can be based on completely fabricated information that favors certain publications. And of course, Huawei themselves aren’t very keen on sharing any intricate details so far.

This could be a huge release, not just for the company but for the smartphone market in general. Different manufacturers have been trying for some time now to establish new trends in camera hardware, and this kind of device might be just what the market needs to push it in that direction. Of course, it could also end up a failed experiment that quickly gets swept under the rug, but we won’t know for sure until the release day arrives.
