‘No Man’s Sky’ Player Count Down by 90% Just 2 Weeks After the Game’s Launch!

It doesn’t look good for the creators of “No Man’s Sky” as the user-base for the video game has significantly dropped on PC since it was launched about two weeks ago.

According to SteamSpy’s statistics, there were only close to 20,000 players in “No Man’s Sky” on PC this week, a massive cut from the 212,620 players during its launch earlier this month.

The website released a detailed list of the number of players playing “No Man’s Sky” daily since its launch and the numbers have been hugely declining from day to day, meaning a lot of players are quitting the game even before finishing it.

These numbers point to a few things such as the initial burst of hype that got a lot of attention at first. A lot of people streamed the game, and a lot of people played it as well.

However, the interest started waning a few hours after the game’s release with most players either dropped off or got a refund. The average playtime sits at around 16 hours, which is comparatively low.

It’s worth noting that this doesn’t reflect the total population of the game but rather the number of people playing it simultaneously.

The stats also don’t reflect the game being played on PlayStation 4 but such an extreme drop for a game that’s only available in two gaming consoles in such a short space of time might raise some eyebrows.

In a Reddit discussion, PC players shared their experiences saying they were already bored after a day of playing the video game. Others say that the only way people will keep playing the game is if Hello Games makes it free.

Report say that with the promotion and marketing of the game setting incredibly high standards, the game didn’t impress many players at all.

“No Man’s Sky” has created a hype before its launch hence there was a massive increase in sales because of pre-orders for the game. However, as per PC Gamer, the number of people streaming the game on Twitch has also fallen significantly.

“No Man’s Sky” is an action-adventure survival video game that was released earlier this month. Its gameplay is built on four pillars —exploration, survival, combat, and trading.

In the game, players are free to perform within the entirety of an open universe their own sets of flora and fauna. By exploring, players gain information about the planets that they can submit to Atlas.

Players also gain materials and blueprints to upgrade their character’s equipment and purchase a variety of starships, allowing them to travel deeper into the center of the galaxy and survive on planets with hostile environments.

Players participate in a shared universe to exchange planet information with friends. However, the game is also fully playable online through a procedurally-generated technology.

The game was first teased back in 2013 with Sony formally announcing the title during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2014.

The game created a significant attention and attracted many players leading to its release. When it was released, the game received mixed reviews with some critics saying it didn’t measure up to their expectations.

Some praised the technical achievements of the procedurally-generated universe but considered the lack of gameplay and the game itself being repetitive.

The game also suffered several technical problems at launch and appeared to have lacked several marketed features, including the multiplayer element.

Hello Games states that they are committed to fixing technical issues while planning to expand the features of the game in time.

There were also allegations that the game was overhyped and underdelivered with Sony’s refund policy even brought into question. The game developer has promised a better game with the launch of the PS4 Neo.
