Sherlock Season 4 Rumored to Feature Death of Protagonist, Could the Series Continue After That? Let’s See

“Sherlock” is one of the more unusual productions on TV right now for many reasons, its format being one of the main ones. Developments tend to happen more in the style of a feature-length film rather than a TV show, and seasons are quite short compared to other major shows on TV. Which is why the announcement of more drastic plot developments tends to strike fans as a scary thought, especially when it concerns the possible death of a character.

And when that character is the actual protagonist of the show, well… it’s safe to say that fans are quite upset in their discussions right now, and nobody seems to know for sure what’s coming next. There are rumors at the moment that Sherlock is scheduled to be killed off in the fourth season of his own show, after going through some dramatic moments of character development.

This brings up the obvious question of what’s going to happen to the show afterwards if that’s true. Obviously, it would be a bit strange to continue “Sherlock” without its main character, but there are rumors that this is exactly what the producers are planning right now.

We’ve been getting some hints that there are already plans for season 5 on the table, but it’s going to revolve around a new concept for the show, one that doesn’t feature Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s not clear what exactly the producers could be planning, but there are some possibilities, such as a “vigilante” inspired by Sherlock taking in his footsteps. It could also be a season about Watson, which is actually something fans have been requesting for a while now.

The character could definitely use some additional development, and there is a lot that can be said about him. He has loyally supported the detective throughout the series, and while we’ve seen quite a lot about him beneath the surface, there is arguably a lot more that could be said still. It would definitely make for a potentially interesting season, especially if the producers decide to reference some old events from the show as well. Fans should appreciate a “throwback” season like that, and it would be a fantastic way to send off the series.

On the other hand, there are also rumors that this season will be the show’s last. If Sherlock really is about to be killed off, that could make perfect sense as well. We still expect to see some additional development for Watson’s character regardless though, as it would be a bad ending for the show if that aspect isn’t handled in some way. But the producers have clearly shown that they are not only actively following the opinions of their fans online, they are also working hard to develop the show in the way fans want it. So we definitely expect them to address the main concerns that have been brought up.

Sherlock Season 4

Meanwhile, Moriarty is said to play an important role in this season again. Fans have been curious to see what else the villain could come up with, and it’s implied that this time Sherlock will put in a lot of effort to ensure that he takes him down for good. The struggle should be quite the memorable one if this is really planned to be the final season of the show, so we expect to see something spectacular on the screen during those episodes. Moriarty has proven to be a cunning and capable opponent, so we expect a lot from him.
